“I’m humbled by the opportunity to set up a scholarship program to honor this team of professionals – my Cincinnati heroes – who helped save my life,” Hamlin said.
“Today, as I look at honoring these Cincinnati heroes and lifting up young people who are trying to find their way, I’m reminded of the enormous blessing I’ve been given through my charity and the generosity of people around the world.”
Hamlin, who grew up in McKees Rock near Pittsburgh, was able to attend Central Catholic High School thanks to a scholarship. He went on to play for the University of Pittsburgh and was drafted by the Bills in 2021.
While Hamlin established his foundation during college to support local youths, it was his collapse and recovery that brought in over $9 million in contributions for Chasing M’s. He has used his charity to provide automated external defibrillators to community sports associations and promote CPR training.
Although Hamlin has resumed his career and made the Bills roster, he is not expected to play on Sunday night as he is currently the fifth and final safety on Buffalo’s depth chart.
