Both Democrats aim to flip the statewide seat in a Republican-leaning state, while the Republican primary appears headed for a runoff.The eventual Democratic nominee will have over two months to campaign for the general election as Republicans vie for their nomination.
On the broader GOP side, Trump endorsed Texas Republicans but did not back Dan Crenshaw. Crockett has risen in prominence, often contrasting herself with Trump in her campaign, while Talarico, who is training to be a pastor, emphasizes faith and has about 1.2 million TikTok followers and a background as a San Antonio teacher.

Freshman Sen. Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD) became the first senator to endorse Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) in the competitive Texas Democratic Senate primary.
The endorsement from Alsobrooks, one of two black female senators, comes after early voting in the state began on Tuesday. Crockett is facing Texas state Rep. James Talarico in what is shaping up to be a close race.
“I have seen my friend Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett in action, I’ve seen her hold her ground as well as reach across the aisle in the best interest of Texans and all Americans,” Alsobrooks wrote. “She is a battle-tested leader who is ready to serve in the US Senate. We need more fighters in the Senate. Texas, that’s why I’m asking you to send us the reinforcement we need and vote for Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett.”
The most recent poll, by the University of Houston’s Hobby School of Public Affairs, had Crockett leading at 47%, while 39% support Talarico. The poll consisted of 550 likely Democratic primary voters and marked a change from other polling that had shown the two neck and neck.
Talarico was endorsed by Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM) last week, marking his first Senate endorsement.
Both Democrats are aiming to flip the statewide seat in a red state. As the Republican primary appears headed to a runoff, the Democratic nominee will have over two months to campaign for the general election, while the top two Republicans fight for the nomination.

The congresswoman has focused much of her campaign against President Donald Trump, with her launch video being a series of insults the president has said about her.
Talarico is studying to become a pastor and has focused much of his campaign on his faith. The 36-year-old has 1.2 million followers on TikTok and is a former sixth-grade teacher in San Antonio.
