Country stars dominate Billboard Hot 100 chart after decades.
Country Stars Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs Make History on Billboard Hot 100 Chart
Country music is taking the music world by storm as Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs secure the top two spots on the Billboard Hot 100 song chart. This remarkable achievement marks the first time in over 42 years that country artists have simultaneously held the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
The last time this happened was back in 1981 when Eddie Rabbitt’s “I Love a Rainy Night” and Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” dominated the charts, according to Billboard.
Wallen’s hit single “Last Night” has maintained its reign at the top for an impressive 12 weeks, while Combs’ catchy tune “Fast Car” has climbed up one spot to claim the second position.

Wallen’s “Last Night” has garnered an impressive 72.2 million radio impressions and 29.8 million streams this week. Combs’ rendition of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” has also made waves with 51.3 million radio impressions and 21.2 million streams.
This incredible achievement comes after Wallen faced a setback in his career. The 30-year-old singer had to cancel six weeks of shows for his “One Night at a Time” tour due to a diagnosis of vocal cord trauma.
In a recent Instagram Story, Wallen shared the news that he has been cleared by his doctor to talk and sing again, stating, “we’re back.” This update follows his announcement in May that his upcoming shows were postponed for six weeks to allow his vocal cords to heal.
Prior to this, Wallen informed his fans about receiving “bad news” from his doctors regarding a reinjury to his vocal cords after returning to the stage following a ten-day rest, resulting in the vocal cord injury.
“Their advice is that I go on vocal rest for six weeks, so that’s what I’m going to do,” Wallen explained. “They want me not to talk at all, but they said that if I need to, it’s okay for something like this.”
“[The doctors] told me that if I do this the right way, I’ll get back to 100 percent,” he added. “They also said that if I don’t listen and I keep singing, then I’ll permanently damage my voice. So for the longevity of my career, this is just the choice I had to make. I hate it but I love you guys. And I appreciate all the support… I’ll see you soon, and I’ll be back better than ever.”
The rescheduled shows will now take place between August 30, 2023, and June 7, 2024, as reported by the New York Post.
