Abbott retaliates as Adams labels him a ‘madman’, claiming he couldn’t survive a week in Texas.
Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Greg Abbott Clash Over Immigration
The war of words between New York City mayor Eric Adams and Texas GOP governor Greg Abbott continues to escalate. After Adams criticized the influx of illegal immigrants into New York City, Abbott fired back, challenging Adams to survive a week in Texas.
“Go item for item on what Eric Adams ran for as a candidate and look at what we accomplished in 20 months: We turned this city around in 20 months, and then what happened? Started with a madman down in Texas who decided he wanted to bus people up to New York City,” Adams exclaimed during a recent townhall.
Abbott, who has been transporting thousands of illegal immigrants to New York City, responded with a clever reference to Frank Sinatra’s iconic song. “Well, the mayor may have made it to be mayor of New York, but he could not last a week in Texas,” Abbott retorted.
“They have so few migrants in New York compared to what we deal with every single day; it’s just outrageous he would make a comment like that,” Abbott expressed. “However, I’ve got to add this: What’s maddening is the fact that in New York and Chicago and DC and LA and other places, they put out policies self-proclaiming that they’re ‘sanctuary cities,’ and they love to promote these liberal ideologies until they have to actually live up and apply them. It’s clear that policies of ‘sanctuary cities’ and letting everybody live for free simply do not work. This is a day of reckoning for all of the United States realizing that the liberal policies of open borders will not work in this country.”
Abbott also addressed the Democrats’ previous statements about using the growing number of Hispanics in Texas to turn the state blue. Despite these predictions, Abbott defeated Beto O’Rourke by a significant margin in the 2014 gubernatorial race.
“The Hispanics in Texas, they don’t agree with the leftist woke agenda and progressive ideas,” Abbott emphasized. “They firmly reject that. In fact, Hispanics in Texas do not like Biden’s open border policies. Texas will continue to get even more red because of the reckless liberal progressive policies.”
