Coroner reveals Lisa Marie Presley’s cause of death.
Lisa Marie Presley’s Tragic Death Revealed: Complications from Bariatric Surgery
The world was shocked by the news of Lisa Marie Presley’s untimely death at the age of 54. The singer, songwriter, and heir of Elvis Presley passed away on January 12, and authorities have now revealed the cause of her demise.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office released an autopsy report stating that Presley died from natural causes due to complications from a small bowel obstruction. These complications were a result of bariatric surgery, a weight loss procedure she had undergone several years ago.
The autopsy report shed light on the common nature of the complication Presley experienced. Bariatric surgery is often performed when other weight loss methods have failed or when a person has a serious medical condition.
On the day of her death, Presley had been rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after paramedics responded to a 911 call reporting a woman in cardiac arrest at her home. The autopsy report mentioned that she had been experiencing stomach pain earlier that day, but no specific cause was identified at the time.
Presley’s funeral took place on January 22 at Graceland, the iconic home where she had lived with her father as a child. Nearly 5,000 mourners gathered to bid their final farewell to the beloved singer.

Left behind by Presley are her three daughters: 34-year-old Riley Keough, who is an actor known for her role in “Daisy Jones & the Six,” and 15-year-old twins Harper and Finley Lockwood. Tragically, Presley’s son, Benjamin Keough, had passed away in 2020.
In the aftermath of her death, there was speculation about a legal battle over Presley’s estate. However, her mother, Priscilla Presley, and Riley Keough, who now serves as the sole trustee, reached a settlement in May. This resolved the dispute over a 2016 amendment to Lisa Marie Presley’s living trust.
Despite the heartbreak and legal challenges, Riley Keough received a nomination for her first Emmy as best actress in a limited series or TV movie for her role in “Daisy Jones & the Six.”
