Conservative group targets AOC with billboards in Times Square before primary

A conservative business advocacy group, The Job Creators⁣ Network, has increased its efforts against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) by allocating ⁤$100,000 for billboards in Times Square and supporting her primary opponent, Martin Dolan,‌ prior to the June 25 primary. The group, which endorses Dolan, ⁢a moderate believed to support small‌ businesses, has put up three billboards criticizing Ocasio-Cortez’s handling of issues like rising crime, illegal immigration, defunding the police, increasing grocery⁣ prices, and high energy costs. The ‍billboards urge voters to support Martin Dolan in the Democratic primary, marking another⁢ instance of‌ the group’s opposition to Ocasio-Cortez.

A conservative business advocacy group is escalating its feud with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), spending $100,000 on billboards in Times Square and propping up her primary opponent ahead of the June 25 primary.

The Job Creators Network is endorsing Ocasio-Cortez’s Democratic challenger, Martin Dolan, a moderate who the group believes supports small businesses. The group is launching three billboards in Times Square, slamming Ocasio-Cortez’s record and calling on primary voters to vote for Dolan.

The billboards that went up on Wednesday from the nonprofit group accused Ocasio-Cortez of being responsible for “rising crime,” “illegal immigration chaos,” “defunding the police,” “skyhigh grocery prices,” and “out of control energy costs.”

“Time to pack it up. Vote Democrat Martin Dolan now,” the billboard said.

This isn’t the first time the group has funded billboards against the three-term congresswoman. In February 2019, the JCN put up a billboard claiming Ocasio-Cortez caused 25,000 lost jobs and $4 billion in lost wages due to the Amazon HQ2 termination. Ocasio-Cortez had been outspokenly against Amazon’s deal with New York to build a new headquarters there, scrutinizing the $3 billion in tax credits from the city and the state over 10 years.

The group funded a similar billboard on Wednesday, which read “P.S. Too bad you pushed out 25,000 Amazon jobs ‘cuz you’re about to need one!”

“AOC is a threat to American small businesses and America’s way of life,” Alfredo Ortiz, the CEO of the JCN, said. “Her policies are responsible for the crime, migrant, and economic crises burdening her constituents in New York and around the nation.”

“Democrat Marty Dolan is a much-needed voice of moderation that will help small businesses and working families in New York City and beyond,” he added. “New York City residents looking to stop the bleeding and undo AOC’s damage should vote for Dolan now.”

The congresswoman has attempted to ignore her opponent and refused to debate him. Meanwhile, Dolan, a 66-year-old Westchester native, has tried to take her head-on and slammed the member of the progressive “Squad,” claiming her constituents are tired of her “soft-on-crime” policies.

Dolan’s bid to unseat Ocasio-Cortez, who is now in her sixth year in Congress, is a long shot. Ocasio-Cortez got 74.6% of the vote in her last primary challenge in 2020. Her campaign also has $5 million in cash on hand, according to campaign finance records. Dolan’s campaign had about $6,700 after he loaned himself about $255,500 of his own money.

A spokesperson for the congresswoman’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment.
