Comer says ‘real bad people’ spoke to Epstein post-conviction

the Washington Examiner report centers on Rep. James Comer’s statements about Jeffrey Epstein and newly released files.Comer, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, said that after Epstein’s conviction only “real bad people” continued to communicate with him, and he argued the released files show Donald Trump is exonerated of wrongdoing in the Epstein saga. He was asked about Democrats who received Epstein-related funding and emphasized pursuing data that could help survivors seek justice.

The article notes specific examples from the Epstein files, including communications involving Howard lutnick (who allegedly remained in Epstein’s circle and even visited Epstein’s private island after Epstein’s 2008 conviction) and a 2016 email to Epstein from CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz that appeared to invite him to a Valentine’s Day party. Comer indicated the committee is interested in subpoenas or testimony from those involved, while saying Trump’s involvement is not a primary concern. Also mentioned are remarks about Les Wexner, who testified under subpoena and said he could not identify instances of Epstein and Trump together.the piece portrays Comer as asserting that the focus should be on those who kept contact with Epstein and on obtaining information to aid survivors.

Comer says ‘real bad people’ spoke to Epstein post-conviction, insists files absolve Trump

Rep. James Comer (R-KY) said Thursday that only “real bad people” continued to communicate with the late disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein after his conviction and added that newly released files absolve President Donald Trump of wrongdoing.

Comer, who chairs the House oversight committee, was asked about Democrats who received funding from Epstein after he was convicted during an interview with Sean Hannity

“I think that if you look at Epstein and who the real bad people were, the real bad people were the ones who continued to communicate with Epstein after he was convicted,” Comer said. “That’s where you have to question.”

The committee chairman pointed to examples of prominent figures who maintained contact with Epstein after he was convicted of sex crimes. Comer said the first conviction occurred in 2018, but Epstein was first convicted of sex crimes in Florida in 2008.

However, newly disclosed Epstein files show that Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick communicated in Epstein’s circle and even visited his private island years after Epstein’s 2008 conviction. Lutnick had previously stated he cut ties with Epstein in 2005. A 2016 email to Epstein from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz, which appeared to contain an invitation to a Valentine’s Day party, was also revealed in the files.

Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) reportedly asked Comer to subpoena Lutnick to testify before the congressional panel, but Comer said the commerce secretary is not a primary concern.

Comer maintained that the oversight committee is interested in speaking with anyone with information that “can help us get justice for the survivors.”

Hannity also mentioned allegations of Trump’s association with Epstein, noting that Trump kicked Epstein out of his Mar-a-Lago club.

“The Democrats didn’t care about Epstein until someone had the notion that Donald Trump was involved,” Comer said. “What we’ve seen from the millions of documents that have been released is that Donald Trump is completely exonerated in the whole Epstein saga.”

Trump has acknowledged knowing Epstein but has repeatedly denied any illegal behavior or inappropriate contact. According to Comer, the records show no indication that Trump engaged in improper communications with Epstein after the first conviction.

‘NO RESPONSE’ FROM COMER ON LUTNICK SUBPOENA OVER EPSTEIN TIES, HOUSE DEMOCRAT SAYS

Ohio retail billionaire Les Wexner is one of the alleged co-conspirators mentioned in the files and was subpoenaed to testify this week.

Wexner said during an hourslong deposition before the oversight committee on Wednesday that he couldn’t pinpoint an instance where he saw Epstein and Trump together.
