Comer and Jordan address Hunter Biden’s request for special treatment in brief response

Top Republican lawmakers slam Hunter Biden’s attorney’s request for special treatment

House Oversight Chairman James Comer of Kentucky and House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio⁤ have strongly criticized Hunter Biden’s⁢ attorney, Abbe Lowell, for seeking preferential treatment in a recent letter. Lowell had informed ⁢lawmakers that Hunter Biden would be willing to testify in a public forum‌ but not in a private deposition. Hunter Biden and President ⁣Joe Biden’s brother James were subpoenaed on November 8.

“If, as you claim, your⁢ efforts ⁣are important and involve ‍issues that Americans should know ⁤about, then let the⁤ light shine on these‌ proceedings,” Lowell ‍wrote.

However, Comer and Jordan rejected Lowell’s request to deviate from committee⁤ protocol and hold a sit-down ‌deposition⁤ on December 13.

“Mr. Biden’s attempt to avoid sitting for a deposition pursuant to the terms of subpoenas — by offering instead⁣ to⁢ testify at a public‍ hearing — amounts⁤ to a demand that he receive special treatment from ⁤the Committees,” the lawmakers wrote. “Mr. Biden will⁢ not succeed in‍ attempting‍ to‌ dictate to the Committees how they conduct their investigation.”

Comer expressed openness to⁤ a public ‍hearing ⁣at a later date while emphasizing the expectation of full‌ cooperation with the subpoena for a deposition.

🚨STATEMENT ON ABBE LOWELL LETTER🚨

“Hunter Biden is‌ trying to play by his own rules instead ⁣of following the rules required of ‍everyone else. That won’t stand with House Republicans.

“Our lawfully issued subpoena to Hunter Biden requires him ‍to appear for a deposition on…”

How might a public hearing‍ allow Hunter Biden to control the narrative and avoid ⁤potentially damaging revelations

Im to appear for a deposition, ⁤and we expect ‌him⁣ to comply. We will not allow Mr. Biden to dictate how our investigation should be conducted.”

In the letter, Comer and Jordan reiterated their ⁤concerns⁣ regarding the‌ potential conflict of interest arising from Hunter Biden’s business dealings ⁤in Ukraine and China while his ⁣father, Joe Biden, was‌ vice president.

“Hunter Biden’s alleged involvement in ‌questionable⁣ business transactions ⁢and⁤ his role in foreign companies raise serious questions⁤ that ⁣need to be answered,” ‌the⁤ lawmakers stated. “It is essential that he⁢ appear for a private deposition so that we can obtain the necessary information to fully understand the extent of his involvement ⁣and any potential wrongdoing.”

The subpoena of Hunter⁢ Biden and James Biden is ‌part ‍of an ongoing investigation by ⁣the House Oversight ⁤and Judiciary committees into potential ethics breaches and conflicts of interest within the Biden family.

Lowell’s request for ⁤Hunter Biden to testify in a public forum is ⁤seen ⁤by ‍some as‌ an attempt ‍to control the narrative⁣ and‍ avoid potentially damaging revelations that might⁤ arise in a⁢ private ⁣deposition.⁣ Critics argue that ⁤a public hearing may allow Hunter Biden‌ to evade difficult questions or spin ‍the story in his favor.

The refusal of ‌Hunter Biden to comply ⁢with the deposition subpoena could result ‌in legal consequences, including⁤ a contempt of Congress charge. ⁤The lawmakers emphasized that they were prepared to take further‍ action if necessary to enforce the subpoenas and ensure ‌a thorough ‍investigation.

The battle⁣ between Hunter ⁣Biden’s attorney and top‍ Republican⁢ lawmakers is likely to intensify as the investigation into the Biden family continues.
