Officials in Colorado have arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a United States Postal service worker.

A 26-year-old woman, Devan Schreiner, is under arrest after allegedly shooting and killing the USPS worker while on the job. Authorities made the announcement late Wednesday evening, adding she was the victim’s ex-girlfriend.

In a press conference Wednesday, Longmont Police Deputy Chief Jeff Satur confirmed a male worker was shot several times in front of a Colorado neighborhood while delivering mail.

“This afternoon, around 12:30, we had a shooting of a Postal employee who was delivering mail on Heatherhill Street and Renaissance Drive. He was at one of the neighbor’s mailboxes. A person dressed in all black, wearing a black hoodie and a blue mask, approached the employee and shot him multiple times. He died at the scene,” said Satur.

Now in custody, the shooter can be prosecuted at the state or federal level since Postal workers are federal employees.

Meanwhile, the suspect is being held at the Boulder County Jail on first-degree murder charges. The Colorado Postal worker is the third to be shot and killed in the U.S. in the past three days.
