The House Oversight Committee has set deposition dates for bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton in the Jeffrey Epstein inquiry after they previously dodged subpoenas. Bill Clinton is scheduled for February 27 and Hillary Clinton for February 26, with a noon deadline to agree to transcribed and taped depositions without time limits; failure to comply would have led to contempt proceedings. Committee Chairman James Comer said the Clintons “caved” and will appear for depositions after delaying for six months. This marks a reversal from january, when the couple argued the inquiry was invalid and politically motivated in a joint letter to Comer that framed the probe as partisan politics and referenced Trump-era actions and the January 6 riot. The subpoena was issued in August, and their January refusal risked criminal action by the DOJ; Navarro and Bannon have already been sentenced for contempt in related refusals, and Politico noted Democrats were likely to vote to hold the Clintons in contempt if they did not comply. The Clintons described their decision as defending the country and its principles, saying now was the time to stand up for them.
