The House Oversight Committee announced dates for former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary clinton to testify in the Jeffrey Epstein probe after they had dodged subpoenas and faced a potential contempt vote. Bill Clinton is slated to testify on February 27, with Hillary Clinton testifying the day before; the panel gave a noon deadline to accept transcribed and taped depositions with no time limits, and said contempt proceedings would proceed if they refused.

The Clintons’ participation marks a reversal from their January stance, when they argued the inquiry was invalid and politically motivated. In a joint letter to Rep. Comer, they said there was no plausible explanation for the pursuit other than partisan politics and referenced broader political grievances, including actions by the Trump administration and the January 6 Capitol riot.

The subpoena had been issued in August, with delays continuing into January before the couple agreed to participate, a move that comes after similar cases where others who refused to testify faced criminal contempt. Politico noted that Democrats were likely to vote to hold the Clintons in contempt if they refused. The Clintons’ own message suggested they have decided to take a stand in this moment.
