Christian Datoc says Trump’s honeymoon period is ‘rapidly’ running out – Washington Examiner
In a recent article by Christian datoc for the *Washington Examiner*, he discusses President Donald Trump’s declining support as he approaches the 100-day mark in his second management. Datoc highlights that Trump’s failure to fulfill his key campaign promise of reducing everyday prices has contributed to this drop in support. He notes that while many economists acknowledge that improving the economy will take time, the president’s “honeymoon period” is waning, with the public increasingly anxious about inflation and the negative effects of tariffs on their financial well-being.
Datoc points out that even though a Fox News poll indicates that Trump’s approval rating stands at 44%, down from 49% in March, many voters express satisfaction with his handling of border security. However, he cautions that this approval does not extend to all aspects of Trump’s immigration policies, noting that he faces notable disapproval regarding his deportation agenda. Following the release of the poll, Trump publicly criticized Fox News, claiming that their polling was consistently inaccurate and critical of him.
Christian Datoc says Trump’s honeymoon period is ‘rapidly’ running out
Washington Examiner White House reporter Christian Datoc said President Donald Trump has failed to deliver on his top campaign promise of lowering everyday prices, contributing to a dip in his support as his second administration gets ready to hit the 100-day mark next week.
“We in Washington and economists recognize this will take some time, but the president’s honeymoon period as we approach the conclusion of this first 100 days is rapidly running out,” Datoc said. “People want to see inflation reduced, and they don’t love the impact that the tariffs have had on their personal portfolios or 401ks, and they are concerned about what these protracted negotiations might mean. The president needs to get a handle on the economy because that’s what runs politics in 2025.”
While the Fox News poll showed Trump’s overall approval rating now at 44%, down 5% from the 49% in March, a majority of voters, 55%, were pleased with his performance on border security.
Datoc warned that the high marks didn’t necessarily mean voters were on board with all of the president’s border policies or “necessarily extended to his entire immigration agenda.”
“He’s underwater on immigration as a whole and the deportation agenda in particular,” Datoc said.
After Fox’s poll was released on Wednesday, which showed Trump had the lowest approval rating after his first 100 days of any president in the last 20 years, Trump went after the network itself.
“Rupert Murdoch has told me for years that he is going to get rid of his FoxNews, Trump Hating, Fake Pollster, but he has never done so. This ‘pollster’ has gotten me, and MAGA, wrong for years,” Trump posted on Truth Social earlier this week.
