Chris Christie considers challenging Bob Menendez for U.S. Senate.
Chris Christie: No Interest in Running Against Indicted Senator
Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie made it clear that he has no intention of running against Senator Bob Menendez, who was recently indicted on federal corruption charges. During an interview on NBC News’s “Meet The Press,” Christie addressed the indictment and the Republican party’s claims of a two-tiered justice system.
Christie, a former U.S. attorney in New Jersey, expressed his satisfaction with the Justice Department’s actions, stating, “I commend the Southern District of New York for doing the right thing.” He emphasized the severity of the charges against Menendez, highlighting the discovery of large sums of cash and gold bars with incriminating evidence.
While Christie acknowledged that not all of the Department of Justice has engaged in wrongdoing, he did express concern over a plea deal offered to Hunter Biden by U.S. Attorney David Weiss.
When asked if he would consider running against Menendez if he didn’t win the presidential election, Christie firmly responded, “No, I have no interest in being in the United States Senate.” He explained that he had the opportunity to appoint himself to the Senate in 2013 but chose not to, making it clear that he has no desire to pursue a Senate seat.
