Chris Christie rejects DeSantis’ offer to deploy special forces against Mexican cartels.
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie Challenges Florida Governor’s Plan to Combat Mexican Cartels
In a recent interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation,” Chris Christie expressed his disagreement with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ proposal to send U.S. Special Forces into Mexico to eliminate the Mexican cartels.
During the interview, host Nancy Cordes asked Christie about DeSantis’ statement made at the Republican Party’s first presidential primary debate. She questioned whether deploying special forces was a viable solution to the Fentanyl crisis and raised concerns about Mexico perceiving it as an act of war.
Christie responded, ”I believe Mexico would indeed view it as an act of war. Moreover, I see China’s actions of supplying precursor chemicals to these Mexican drug cartels as an act of war as well, considering the fentanyl they produce and send into our country.”
Continuing his point, Christie emphasized the need for alternative approaches. He suggested utilizing intelligence assets, strengthening border security to prevent illegal crossings, and completing the unfinished border wall initiated by former President Donald Trump. Additionally, he proposed deploying National Guard troops to intercept individuals attempting to bring fentanyl across the border.
While the idea of invading Mexico may sound appealing during a debate, Christie cautioned that implementing such a plan would be far more complex than it appears on the surface.

According to @govchristie, the U.S. should deploy National Guard troops to the southern border to combat cartels smuggling fentanyl into the country.
While Customs and Border Protection would remain the primary law enforcement agency, Christie believes they would benefit from additional support. pic.twitter.com/RpyW35Wjet
