Chris Christie urges GOP to demand DOJ clarification on Hunter Biden plea deal, rejects idea of moving on.
Chris Christie: Republicans Should Not “Move On” if Hunter Biden Gets Lenient Plea Deal
Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie expressed his strong opposition to the idea of the Republican Party simply “moving on” if Hunter Biden receives a lenient plea deal in court this week. Christie, a former New Jersey governor and federal prosecutor, made these remarks during an engaging interview with Margaret Brennan on CBS News’ “Face The Nation.”
Brennan informed Christie that Hunter Biden is expected to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges and potentially avoid conviction on a gun-related charge. When asked if Republicans should let it go if the plea happens, Christie firmly responded, “No, I wouldn’t.”
Christie criticized the conduct of the U.S. attorney in Delaware and the Justice Department, stating that their actions cannot be justified. He emphasized that it should not take five years to investigate two misdemeanor tax counts and dismiss a gun charge. Christie, drawing from his experience as a former U.S. attorney, called for transparency regarding the investigation and the reasoning behind the chosen charges.
The gun-related aspect of the case particularly troubled Christie. He pointed out the irony of Democrats advocating for stricter gun laws while remaining silent on Hunter Biden’s intentional lies on his gun permit application and mishandling of the gun. Christie highlighted that the charge Hunter Biden faces carries a ten-year sentence and was sponsored by his own father, Sen. Joe Biden.
Christie demanded an explanation from U.S. Attorney David Weiss, a Trump nominee, regarding his handling of the case. Regardless of political affiliation, Christie emphasized the importance of competent and explainable work to maintain public confidence in the justice system.
