Chip Roy criticizes the Washington DC ‘uniparty’ for $1.2 trillion funding bill

Rep. ‍Chip Roy’s Stance ‌on the $1.2 Trillion Spending Bill

“We’re $34.5 trillion [in debt],”

he said on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday.‌ “Both ⁤parties ⁣are equally to blame over that time. Both parties. The uniparty, the entire establishment in⁣ Washington, keeps spending money we ‌don’t have, racking up debt to advance policies that are undermining our safety and⁢ well-being.”

Rep. Chip ⁢Roy of Texas ‌did not hold back ‌in denouncing the recently signed $1.2 trillion spending bill by President ‍Joe Biden. Calling⁤ it a bipartisan financial failure, Roy highlighted the alarming national debt ‍and pointed ‌fingers⁣ at both sides of⁣ the aisle for the country’s financial‍ woes.

Biden Signs Bill Amidst Deadline Miss

Biden went ahead and signed the bill despite missing the ‌midnight deadline to prevent a temporary government ⁤shutdown. This action ensures government funding through the end ⁢of fiscal⁢ 2024, allowing‌ just over six months for Congress and the White House to agree on funding for‌ the next fiscal year.

Roy’s Critique Extends to Border Security

Besides criticizing ⁣deficit‍ spending, Rep. Roy underscored Congress’s‍ failure to address ⁣border ‍security adequately. In a poignant example citing the case of Laken Riley, a victim ⁣of mass parole policies, he raised concerns about the release of individuals into the country, flouting the ‍law ⁢and endangering lives.

Motion to Remove⁤ House Speaker Mike Johnson

Rep. Marjorie ⁢Taylor Greene has escalated tensions within the ⁣GOP by initiating a motion to oust ⁤House⁢ Speaker Mike Johnson over the funding bill. This move, if successful, would mark ⁤the second speaker removal during this year’s budget discussions, setting ⁤the stage for ⁣a potentially contentious vote upon‌ the House’s return from recess in April.

While ⁤Roy remained somewhat ⁤aloof on ⁣this topic, dismissing it as “beltway ‌palace ‍drama,” he acknowledged the challenges faced by the speaker in navigating such divisive‌ issues.

Border⁤ Security vs. Ukraine Funding

Expressing a clear stance on prioritizing border security,⁢ Roy emphasized ‍that approving ‍funds for Ukraine should not precede securing the southern border. He warned of potential discord among Capitol Hill lawmakers if‌ Ukraine⁤ funding ‌is pushed before addressing critical ⁤domestic security concerns.

As debates continue to swirl around these critical‍ issues, the repercussions of fiscal decisions ⁢and‌ national ⁤security strategies remain at the forefront of political discourse in Washington.
