Chip Roy criticizes the Washington DC ‘uniparty’ for $1.2 trillion funding bill
Rep. Chip Roy’s Stance on the $1.2 Trillion Spending Bill
“We’re $34.5 trillion [in debt],”
he said on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday. “Both parties are equally to blame over that time. Both parties. The uniparty, the entire establishment in Washington, keeps spending money we don’t have, racking up debt to advance policies that are undermining our safety and well-being.”
Rep. Chip Roy of Texas did not hold back in denouncing the recently signed $1.2 trillion spending bill by President Joe Biden. Calling it a bipartisan financial failure, Roy highlighted the alarming national debt and pointed fingers at both sides of the aisle for the country’s financial woes.
Biden Signs Bill Amidst Deadline Miss
Biden went ahead and signed the bill despite missing the midnight deadline to prevent a temporary government shutdown. This action ensures government funding through the end of fiscal 2024, allowing just over six months for Congress and the White House to agree on funding for the next fiscal year.
Roy’s Critique Extends to Border Security
Besides criticizing deficit spending, Rep. Roy underscored Congress’s failure to address border security adequately. In a poignant example citing the case of Laken Riley, a victim of mass parole policies, he raised concerns about the release of individuals into the country, flouting the law and endangering lives.
Motion to Remove House Speaker Mike Johnson
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has escalated tensions within the GOP by initiating a motion to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson over the funding bill. This move, if successful, would mark the second speaker removal during this year’s budget discussions, setting the stage for a potentially contentious vote upon the House’s return from recess in April.
While Roy remained somewhat aloof on this topic, dismissing it as “beltway palace drama,” he acknowledged the challenges faced by the speaker in navigating such divisive issues.
Border Security vs. Ukraine Funding
Expressing a clear stance on prioritizing border security, Roy emphasized that approving funds for Ukraine should not precede securing the southern border. He warned of potential discord among Capitol Hill lawmakers if Ukraine funding is pushed before addressing critical domestic security concerns.
As debates continue to swirl around these critical issues, the repercussions of fiscal decisions and national security strategies remain at the forefront of political discourse in Washington.
