CHICAGO—In a shocking turn of events, two women were injured during a White Sox baseball game at Guaranteed Rate Field on Friday night.
According to Chicago police, a 42-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, while a 26-year-old woman had a graze wound to her abdomen. The 42-year-old woman is currently in fair condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center, while the 26-year-old woman refused medical attention.
The police statement revealed that the information is still preliminary as detectives are actively investigating the incident.

“Upon receiving notification of this incident, CPD responded immediately and deployed additional resources while coordinating with White Sox security to maintain the safety of those who were in attendance or working at the game,” stated the police. “At no time was it believed there was an active threat.”
The White Sox reported that investigators are uncertain whether the shots were fired from inside or outside the ballpark. The injuries occurred in Section 161 in left-center field.
“While the police continue to investigate, White Sox security confirms that this incident did not involve an altercation of any kind,” assured the team.
“The White Sox are deeply concerned about the victims and wish them a speedy recovery,” added the team.
Major League Baseball has been in contact with the team and Chicago police but has not provided any further details regarding the incident.
The game, which ended in a 12–4 loss for the Chicago White Sox against Oakland, had an announced crowd of 21,906. Unfortunately, the postgame concert featuring Vanilla Ice, Rob Base, and Tone Loc was canceled due to “technical issues,” as stated by the team.
