Cheaper gas greets Michigan holiday travelers
Michigan holiday travelers are seeing lower gas prices than last Christmas. AAA reports the state average for regular unleaded is $2.73 per gallon, with mid-grade at $3.34, premium at $3.90, and diesel at $3.62 – all down from last week and slightly below Thanksgiving levels. prices in Michigan are roughly $0.30 lower than last Christmas, and while the state average is a bit below the national average of $2.86, some counties reach about $3.12. AAA expects 122.4 million Americans to travel 50+ miles between Dec.21 and Jan.1, a 2.2% increase over 2024, and Stacey Barber, VP of AAA Travel, noted people’s continued desire to travel for the holidays. Nationwide, Hawaii has the highest average price ($4.43) and Oklahoma the lowest ($2.32).

(The Center Square) – As Michiganders gear up for holiday traveling, they’ll find gas prices lower than last Christmas.
According to AAA’s Michigan average, the current average for regular unleaded is $2.73 a gallon.
Mid-grade comes in at $3.34, premium at $3.90, and diesel at $3.62.
Those are all down from last week’s average, while slightly less than what the average was around Thanksgiving travel.
Gas prices in Michigan will be lower than last Christmas’ by about $0.30.
This Christmas, AAA projects 122.4 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home from Dec. 21 to Jan. 1. This is a 2.2% increase over 2024, surpassing last year’s record of 119.7 million travelers.
“Holiday celebrations look different for everyone, but a common thread is the desire to travel, whether it’s returning to your hometown or exploring new destinations,” said Stacey Barber, vice president of AAA Travel.
