The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, recently defended the department’s decision to ease mask mandates by saying there has been an evolution in the science.
Her comments come as commentators and Twitter users on the left have been urging people to continue wearing masks. Left-wing activist David Hogg even went as far as to say he will keep wearing a mask, so people don’t mistake him for being conservative.
As scientists continue to research the virus and see cases decline, however, Dr. Walensky said the evidence is clear.
“We have vaccines now across the country, widely available for anyone who wants it,” she stated. “And we now have science that has really just evolved in the last two weeks that demonstrates that these vaccines are safe, they are effective, they are working in the population just as they did in the clinical trails.”

Dr. Walensky suggested research shows vaccinated people can’t pass coronavirus to others, even in the rare case they do contract the virus. This was later reaffirmed by Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who said vaccines are a “dead end” even for new variants.
