CBS News downplays racist remarks targeting Clarence Thomas made by a Black Attorney General.
Minnesota Democratic Attorney General Keith Ellison has recently come under fire for his criticism of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. However, Ellison’s comments took a disturbing turn when he made a vile and racist comparison, likening Thomas to a “house slave.” Shockingly, CBS News chose to cover Ellison’s criticism without acknowledging the racist attack.
Ellison, who is black himself, suggested that Thomas, the second black justice to serve on the Supreme Court, was complicit in suppressing the freedom of others, much like a house slave who worked alongside the slave master.

“Well, Clarence Thomas … all you got to … anybody who’s watched the movie ‘Django,’ just watch Stephen, and you see Clarence Thomas,” Ellison said. “Clarence Thomas has decided that his best personal interests lie with the powerful and the special interests, regardless of who they may harm.”
GOP Rapid Response Director Jake Schneider shared a screenshot of local CBS News affiliate WCCO’s coverage of Ellison’s remarks. While the headline indicated criticism of Justice Thomas, there was no mention of the racially charged comparison Ellison had made.

“Not even a mention of his disgusting remark,” Schneider commented.
“The left’s vile, vicious attempts to smear Justice Thomas are utterly transparent. They just can’t stand that he doesn’t share their radical orthodoxy,” observed Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Twitter.
George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley also criticized Ellison for his comments. He questioned whether Democrats like Ellison, who ran on promises to end hateful rhetoric, would hold themselves accountable for their own divisive language.
…Putting aside his absurd claim that Thomas is illegitimate because Ellison disagrees with his rulings, Ellison portrayed him to a house slave because of his race. He did not declare Alito or Gorsuch as house slaves or illegitimate. Just Thomas.

Turley pointed out that Ellison singled out Thomas, the only black justice on the Supreme Court, for his racially charged attack. This raises questions about Ellison’s motives and whether he is truly committed to combating hatred and bigotry.
