Mother reveals cause of death of Robert De Niro’s grandson.
Tragic Loss: Robert De Niro’s Grandson Dies After Taking Fentanyl-Laced Pills
In a heartbreaking turn of events, the grandson of renowned actor Robert De Niro, Leandro Anthony De Niro-Rodriguez, passed away this week. His mother, Drena De Niro, took to Instagram to share the devastating news. Initially, the cause of death was undisclosed, but Drena later revealed the shocking truth.
“Someone sold him fentanyl-laced pills that they knew were laced yet still sold them to him,” she wrote. “So for all these people still f***ing around selling and buying this s***, my son is gone forever.”
Drena, De Niro’s oldest child, was adopted by the actor when he married her mother, Diahnne Abbott, in 1976. Despite their divorce in 1988, Drena kept the De Niro last name. The grieving family now faces an unimaginable loss, while De Niro himself shared a heartfelt statement:
“I’m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo. We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone. We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo,” the Academy Award-winning actor said.
The tragic death of Leandro sheds light on the growing fentanyl crisis in the United States. According to a recent CDC report, drug deaths involving fentanyl have skyrocketed from 5.7 per 100,000 people to nearly 22 per 100,000 people between 2016 and 2021.
This devastating incident is not an isolated case. Fentanyl has claimed the lives of many individuals, including a former Disney executive, a UFC Hall of Fame Fighter, and a rap artist.
A National Crisis
Last year alone, nearly 110,000 people in the U.S. lost their lives to drug overdoses, as per preliminary data released by the federal government. The alarming rise in fentanyl-related deaths has made it a pressing political issue and a prominent topic on the campaign trail for candidates running for office.
It is crucial that we address this crisis and take decisive action to prevent further tragedies. Together, we can work towards a future where no more lives are lost to the deadly grip of fentanyl.
