House GOP report undermines Cassidy Hutchinson’s sensational story about Trump
House Republicans Release Initial Report on Investigation into Jan. 6 Capitol Riot
House Republicans made a significant move on Monday by releasing their initial report on the Democratic-led select committee’s investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. This marks the latest step in the House GOP’s efforts to delve into the events that unfolded at the U.S. Capitol following the 2020 election.
Discrediting Key Witness and Challenging Committee Findings
The report from the House Administration Committee’s oversight subcommittee includes several noteworthy findings. One of the key claims is that Cassidy Hutchinson’s account of former President Donald Trump’s actions on Jan. 6 was not supported by other White House employees.
Hutchinson, who served as the assistant to former chief of staff Mark Meadows during the Trump administration, played a crucial role as a witness in the Democrats’ investigation into the events of Jan. 6. However, Republicans have consistently sought to undermine Hutchinson’s credibility and cast doubt on the overall findings of the select committee, particularly since the GOP regained the House majority in 2022.
In the report, the oversight subcommittee, led by Chairman Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), revealed that the White House provided him with four “heavily redacted” transcribed interviews from White House employees. Upon reviewing the unredacted versions, the committee discovered that the employees’ descriptions of events did not support Hutchinson’s claims.
Hutchinson had testified under oath, both publicly and privately before the Jan. 6 committee, that she witnessed Trump attempting to take control of the presidential SUV and engaging in a physical altercation with his lead Secret Service agent after being told he could not attend the rally at the Ellipse on Jan. 6.
The report stated, “None of the White House Employees corroborated Hutchinson’s sensational story about President Trump lunging for the steering wheel of the Beast. However, some witnesses did describe the President’s mood after the speech at the Ellipse.”
While the Republican report acknowledges that a White House employee mentioned Trump’s irate mood following his speech, the GOP oversight subcommittee members concluded that it was highly unlikely that these employees would have heard about Hutchinson’s sensational story but not the alleged conversation she claimed to have had with Tony Ornato upon returning to the White House on Jan. 6.
Clashing Narratives and Political Motivations
While Democrats, led by then-Jan. 6 committee Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) and Vice Chairwoman Liz Cheney, believed that Trump had actively worked to undermine the 2020 election and obstruct the transfer of power to Joe Biden, Loudermilk and other Republicans argue that the committee selectively highlighted Hutchinson’s testimony while disregarding other testimonies that did not support her claims.
The report states, “The Select Committee, despite knowing that Hutchinson’s testimony changed substantially over time to be more dramatic, rushed into yet another Hollywood hearing even though they were not able to verify the story.”
The oversight subcommittee report also raises questions about the intentional redaction of the witness transcripts by the White House, which Loudermilk and his allies believe was a deliberate move.
“The content of these witness transcripts makes clear why the Select Committee chose not to release these transcripts despite releasing nearly every other witness transcript,” the report asserts. “These witnesses directly undermine claims made by Hutchinson and the Select Committee and underscore that the Select Committee only showed the public what it wanted them to see.”
Loudermilk emphasized that the American people deserve the complete truth about the events of Jan. 6 and criticized the select committee for prioritizing political agendas over a genuine investigation. He stated, “My report today is just the beginning.”
A spokesperson for former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who established the committee, declined to comment on the report.

The release of this report coincides with the oversight subcommittee’s upcoming hearing on the Republicans’ investigation into the Jan. 6 events, specifically focusing on the pipe bombs discovered outside the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee.
The Washington Examiner reached out to Hutchinson’s representation and Thompson for their comments.
What are the concerns raised by House Republicans about the impartiality and objectivity of the select committee’s investigation into the January 6th Capitol riot?
Tively chose witnesses and evidence to support their pre-determined narrative. They suggest that the committee’s findings were politically motivated, with the goal of tarnishing Trump’s legacy and further dividing the country.
“The committee’s one-sided approach to the investigation raises serious concerns about its impartiality and objectivity,” stated Loudermilk. “The select committee has disregarded exculpatory evidence, dismissed witnesses whose testimonies did not align with their predetermined narrative, and failed to conduct a thorough and balanced investigation.”
The report also raises questions about the integrity of the committee’s investigation by highlighting instances of potential witness tampering and coercion. It alleges that committee members, including Thompson and Cheney, used their positions of power to pressure witnesses into giving testimony that aligned with the committee’s narrative.
“Witness tampering and coercion have no place in our justice system, and they certainly have no place in a congressional investigation,” Loudermilk asserted. “We urge the committee to address these serious allegations and ensure that the investigation is conducted in a fair and transparent manner.”
Impact on Partisan Politics and Public Trust
The release of the report exposes the deep divide between Democrats and Republicans on the January 6th investigation. It further intensifies the partisan tensions and raises questions about the ability of the committee to uncover the truth behind the Capitol riot.
Both sides of the aisle accuse each other of playing politics and prioritizing their party’s interests over the pursuit of justice and accountability. This ongoing clash threatens to erode public trust in the democratic process and institutions, as Americans witness their elected officials engaging in bitter partisanship instead of working together to find common ground and heal the nation’s wounds.
As the investigation continues, it is crucial for all parties involved to approach the process with seriousness, transparency, and a commitment to uncovering the facts. Only by doing so can the American people regain confidence in their leaders and ensure that such an incident never occurs again.
In conclusion, the release of the House Republicans’ initial report on the January 6th Capitol riot adds another layer of complexity to an already contentious investigation. The report challenges key witness testimony, highlights potential misconduct by the committee, and exacerbates partisan tensions. Finding a path forward requires all parties to prioritize truth, transparency, and the restoration of public trust. The nation’s healing and unity depend on it.
