Cassidy Hutchinson Reportedly Worked For Trump Nine Weeks After He Left Office

Former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson, who became a star witness in the Select Committee on Jan. 6 show trials, continued to work for former President Donald Trump nine weeks after he left office.

Hutchinson, according to government documents published by Business Insider, worked as a “coordinator” in Trump’s taxpayer-funded post-presidential office from about Jan. 20, 2021, when the Biden presidency began, to April 1, 2021. Records from the General Services Administration show the low-level aid was raking in what would amount to an annual salary of $90,000.

The post-presidential employment lasting months after the Jan. 6 riot stands in stark contrast to the narrative Hutchinson presented to lawmakers in June. Speaking before the select committee, Hutchinson said she was “disgusted” by White House actions and left with resentment against her prior employer over his attempts to delay certification of the Electoral College.

“We were watching the Capitol building get defaced over a lie, and it was something that was really hard in that moment to digest,” Hutchinson said.

In the same testimony, the former aide to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows said Trump himself sought to violently hijack the presidential limousine to drive himself to the Capitol. Hutchinson also said former White House Counsel Pat Cipollone personally warned her not to allow Trump to go to the Capitol or, “We’re going to get charged with every crime imaginable.” Both claims were contradicted in the days following her performance. Hours after her appearance, the Secret Service agents who allegedly saw the events in question said they were prepared to denounce Hutchinson’s claims under oath.

In the weeks after the Jan. 6 riot, Hutchinson reportedly sought a job with Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Florida where a handful of other aides and advisers joined the former president after his administration. Trump, however, said he “hardly” knew her and declined to bring her with him.

“I personally turned her request down,” the former president wrote on Truth Social. “Why did she want to go with us if she felt we were so terrible?”

According to Insider, Hutchinson worked for Trump from Northern Virginia until April of 2021. Last week, a series of private communications published by The Federalist further revealed the extent to which Hutchinson flipped on her support for the president to collude with the select committee. Hutchinson commiserated with other targets of the probe about how little information she had to offer of any wrongdoing by Trump on Jan. 6, repeatedly disparaged the committee in private, joked about the riot she now says leaves her with emotional scars, and expressed adoration for the president.

“I would rather shoot myself dead into the Potomac than see marine one flying around this city without 45 again,” Hutchinson wrote in one message nearly three months after the riot.

In May, the month before she would become the Jan. 6 Committee’s blockbuster witness, Hutchinson outlined a conversation she had with a stranger in Washington, D.C.

“A real conversation that just took place,” she began:

Person on sidewalk: your sweatshirt says 45.

Me: yes

Person: like, Trump?

Me: yes

Person: stares

Me: I’m an insurrectionist.

And then I put my headphones in. The end.
