CA senator criticizes Nikki Haley for using ‘dog whistle’ tactics against Kamala Harris
Sen. Laphonza Butler Accuses Nikki Haley of Using “Dog Whistle” Tactics Against Kamala Harris
During an interview on Inside with Jen Psaki, Sen. Laphonza Butler (D-CA) criticized 2024 hopeful Nikki Haley for employing divisive campaign strategies aimed at Vice President Kamala Harris. Butler argued that Haley’s attempts to suggest that a vote for Joe Biden is a vote for Harris are nothing more than coded scare tactics.
“I think that Ambassador Haley is unfortunately perpetuating the dog whistles of divisive politics and frankly should be called on it,” Butler stated. “America has demonstrated that they are ready, willing, and able to support candidates who are experienced, who are qualified, and who have the interest of the American people at heart, and that has been Vice President Harris at every term.”
Butler, who is the third black woman to serve in the Senate, praised Harris for paving the way for her and emphasized the vice president’s extensive experience and qualifications. She accused Haley of attempting to distort Harris’s image and urged her to clarify what she wants the American people to see beyond Harris’s demonstrated capabilities.
Haley’s Response
Haley’s campaign did not provide a comment in response to the Washington Examiner’s request.
Haley and former President Donald Trump are the final two Republican candidates in the 2024 presidential election. Trump has garnered endorsements from several former GOP candidates, including Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), Vivek Ramaswamy, and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC). While Haley faced setbacks in the caucuses held in Iowa and Nevada, as well as the nation’s first primary in New Hampshire, she remains a contender.
