Over 40% of California residents want to leave due to the economy.
A New Poll Reveals Californians’ Growing Dissatisfaction with the State
A recent poll conducted by Strategies 360 and the Los Angeles Times, in collaboration with several organizations including the Center for Asian Americans United for Self Empowerment, Hispanas Organized for Political Equality, and the Los Angeles Urban League, has shed light on the concerns and anxieties faced by residents of California. The findings indicate a significant increase in dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the state’s economy.
California’s Economy Takes a Hit
“Satisfaction with the state economy has dropped 12 points since 2020, including 5 points since last year,” Strategies 360 reported. “Residents are largely dissatisfied with the cost of their healthcare, the amount they pay for their homes, and the overall cost of living expenses (18% satisfied, 81% dissatisfied).” The data also reveals that Californians feel less financially secure compared to previous years. Only 28% of those in households making k-0k annually believe they can live comfortably and save for the future, a significant decrease from the 54% who felt the same in early 2020.
These concerns over the state’s economy have contributed to a growing sense of dissatisfaction among Californians. The poll shows that 43% of respondents believe the state is on the wrong track, marking an 11 percentage point increase since February 2020. In contrast, only 28% believe the state is heading in the right direction.
A Partisan Divide
The poll also highlights a significant divide between conservative and liberal residents of California. Conservative respondents overwhelmingly expressed negative sentiments, with 83% believing the state is on the wrong track, nearly four times the number of Democrats who share the same view.
The California Community Poll surveyed 1,354 Californians over the age of 18 from June 6-16, with an estimated margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
