The 2025 Voter Information Guide was mailed to around 8.5 million voters in the Golden State to provide them with data about Proposition 50. Newsom spearheaded the ballot initiative, which California Democrats hope will help their party pick up five more seats in the House, where the GOP holds a narrow majority.
However, after the voter guide was mailed out to millions ahead of the Nov. 4 election, California Secretary of State Shirley Weber announced this week that the state’s Legislative Analyst’s Office made a labeling error in a map in the guide depicting proposed congressional districts. District 27 was incorrectly labeled as District 22, she said.
“Accuracy in voter information is essential to maintaining public trust in California’s elections,” Weber wrote in the press release. “We are taking swift, transparent action to ensure voters receive correct information. This mislabeling does not affect proposed districts, ballots, or the election process; it is solely a labeling error. Every eligible Californian can have full confidence that their vote will be counted and their representation is secure.”
The state plans to send out a correction notice to registered voters who received the inaccurate guides, an effort expected to cost millions as California grapples with a multibillion-dollar budget deficit.
