California GOP seeks vote to condemn LA riots as Trump sends in troops
California Republicans are proposing a resolution condemning the recent protests in Los Angeles that arose following ICE raids in the area. Led by Rep. young Kim, the resolution aims to denounce the violence associated with the protests and calls for local and state leaders to cooperate with the federal government to restore peace. Meanwhile, California Democrats are expressing their condemnation of violence but also advocating for the right to peaceful protest. Tensions have escalated between President Trump and California Governor Gavin Newsom regarding the deployment of the National guard to manage the protests, with Trump asserting that the situation would have escalated without federal intervention. The situation has sparked meaningful political discourse as both parties navigate their responses amidst the backdrop of civil unrest.

California Republicans are preparing a House resolution to condemn the LA protests, as Democrats try to thread a needle of standing up to President Donald Trump’s military response while not condoning violence.
The GOP California congressional delegation, led by Rep. Young Kim (R-CA), unveiled the resolution Tuesday condemning violence in the protests that erupted last week, following ICE raids across the city after federal agents arrested immigrants in Paramount, California.
The resolution “calls on local and State elected leadership to work with the Federal government to end the violent riots and restore peace.”
California Democrats held a press conference Tuesday morning where members condemned any violence incited during the protests and expressed support for peaceful protesting as a form of “healthy democracy.”
“We all condemn the violence and burning of cars,” Rep. Luz Rivas (D-CA) told the Washington Examiner. “If people are committing crimes, they should be arrested during a protest.”
“Someone on my campaign team joined a peaceful protest, marched to the detention center, and as soon as her group got there, the National Guard was there and threw tear gas canisters at them, without any incident from the group,” she added. “So the National Guard is trying to instigate the violence, just their presence.”
Democrats are walking a fine line after supporting the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests that devolved at times into destruction, arson, looting, and violence by antifa rioters.
“We strongly condemn the agitators who are committing acts of violence,” said Rep. Mike Levin (D-CA). “Their behavior is completely unacceptable. You’re giving people like Stephen Miller exactly the images that they want, and that makes it even easier to then pick a fight over political retribution.”
The DHS arrested 118 illegal immigrants in the Los Angeles area throughout the week, including five people the agency identified as gang members. Federal agents executed search warrants over the weekend in downtown Los Angeles

This also sparked a back-and-forth between the president and Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) over Trump’s decision to call up the National Guard to control the protests over Newsom’s objections. Trump expressed support for Newsom’s arrest Monday after the governor dared the “border czar” to arrest him following the National Guard’s arrival.
“If I didn’t ‘SEND IN THE TROOPS’ to Los Angeles the last three nights, that once beautiful and great City would be burning to the ground right now, much like 25,000 houses burned to the ground in L.A. due to an incompetent Governor and Mayor,” Trump posted on Truth Social on Tuesday.
