The article discusses California Assembly Bill AB 1876, which would bar health care plans adn insurers from denying or limiting care based on a person’s sex assigned at birth, gender identity, or gender as recorded. It explains the bill’s stated aim to prevent “gender discrimination” in access to health programs, ensuring that people-even those without a uterus-cannot be denied pregnancy testing or related services due to gender policies. The piece highlights that Assemblymember Dawn Addis introduced AB 1876 and includes a video of her remarks, while noting the bill is part of a broader set of feminist and LGBTQ+ policy moves in California, including funding changes described as the 2TGI fund. Written by Chris Bray, the article adopts a provocative, satirical tone, framing the measure as a liberal push that challenges traditional norms and even casting the policy as a rebuke to Donald Trump’s positions. It also carries an editor’s note about reproductive anatomy and ends by pointing readers to Bray’s other work, signaling the piece’s opinionated stance on the issue.

Editor’s note: This article discusses human reproductive anatomy.

If you have a penis and testicles, you may have struggled with a bigoted gynecologist who wouldn’t give you a Pap smear to screen you for cancer of the cervix that you don’t have. The doctor may have deflected, blaming your cruel health insurance company for refusing to cover the cost of the test. If this has happened to you, don’t worry: The California legislature has your back.

Tuesday in Sacramento, the Assembly Health Committee will take up AB 1876, a bill to forbid “gender discrimination” by health insurance companies. From the legislative introduction: “The bill would prohibit a health care service plan or health insurer from taking specified actions relating to providing access to health programs and activities, including, but not limited to, denying or limiting health care services to an individual based upon the individual’s sex assigned at birth, gender identity, or gender otherwise recorded.”

So if this bill passes, you can’t be denied any type of care in California because of the sex you were “assigned at birth” when an obstetrician viciously looked at your so-called genitals. Your declared gender identity will determine what tests and care you can get. If you don’t have a uterus or ovaries but still want to be tested for pregnancy, the health care industry won’t be allowed to be mean to you.

The bill was introduced by Assemblymember Dawn Addis, a Democrat from the Central Coast, who, you’ll be shocked to hear, is a former teacher, a former union leader, and a former Planned Parenthood regional board member. You can watch her introduce this remarkable legislation here:

Note the moment, just past the one-minute mark, when Addis brags that the state legislature has also decided to change the state’s TGI fund — that is, the Transgender, Gender Diverse and Intersex fund — to the 2TGI fund, to also cover government-funded trans services for so-called two-spirit people. Moments later she describes AB 1876 as a rebuke to Donald Trump’s cruelty and bigotry.

So remember: When you have your male sexual anatomy tested for cervical cancer next year, you’ll be standing up to Trump. The testicular Pap smear is the leading edge of California’s “progressive” wisdom, and a perfect expression of Left Coast ideology.

It’s both stunning and brave.
