California City Bans COVID Mandates in Bold Pro-Freedom Move

Local‌ Governments Fight Back Against Tyranny

Local governments have the power and responsibility to stand up‌ against‌ the brazen tyranny of our time.

According⁣ to KTTV, the ⁤city council of Huntington Beach, California, made a bold move by voting 4-3 early Wednesday morning to ban COVID-19 mandates⁢ in the city. This ban includes both mask ‌and vaccine mandates.

The city⁤ council meeting lasted until 2:48 a.m., and ⁣while the reason for the ⁤extended meeting was not⁤ specified by KTTV, it’s clear that the contentious subject and close vote played a role.

Declaration ‍Against Mask Mandates

Mayor Pro Tem Gracey Van ⁣Der Mark‌ introduced‌ a powerful declaration stating that mask mandates⁢ in 2020 and 2021 “unnecessarily limited the freedoms of the citizens⁤ of ⁤Huntington Beach — even those⁢ who were ⁢not around anyone who tested positive for COVID-19 or at risk of any exposure.”

Bravo to the four brave souls ⁤on the Huntington Beach City Council for taking‍ a⁣ stand.

While Van⁣ Der ⁣Mark’s declaration⁤ is commendable, it’s important‍ to note that mask mandates have no legitimacy regardless ‌of an individual’s exposure to ⁢COVID-19.

The ⁢fundamental issue with mandates, whether ‌they are for masks or vaccines, is that they lack the authority of the people.

In a republic, government officials ‌only possess the power granted to ‍them by the sovereign people.

And this power is ⁢granted expressly through ‌written ⁤constitutions. Governments cannot claim authority simply because they are governments.

Therefore, ‌any action taken by the government must be authorized by ⁢the people through a written constitution.

This principle ⁢is essential for self-government ‍to thrive. It ensures that⁤ the people remain sovereign and that government⁤ officials cannot arbitrarily⁢ decide ⁣otherwise.

There are no exceptions‍ to ⁣this principle, even in ⁣unusual⁣ circumstances. Governments do⁢ not gain additional powers just because a segment of⁣ the population feels fearful.

With this principle in mind, we don’t need to debate the efficacy of masks or vaccines. Even if these measures⁣ offer protection, mandates ‍would⁣ still be illegitimate.

The Huntington Beach City Council vote highlights another crucial aspect of⁣ the mandate issue. In our constitutional system,‌ no government is superior or inferior to another. Each government operates within its assigned⁢ sphere of authority.

Therefore, a ‌city council vote holds the same‍ weight‍ as a state or federal mandate, unless the state or federal constitution explicitly grants such‌ authority.

While I ⁢cannot speak to the specifics of the California constitution, I can‍ confidently ⁤say that the U.S. Constitution does not authorize mask and vaccine mandates.

When government ⁢officials attempt⁢ to mandate something, we must question their authority. If we have not given them the power, ⁢then we are not obligated — and indeed, we must not comply.
