A bus carrying over 30 teenagers and adults on their way back home from church camp overturned on a road in Southern California, sending at least 20 people to nearby hospitals.
The bus was heading toward Orange County from the San Bernardino Mountains when it crashed around 9 p.m. Sunday local time on State Route 330 near Running Springs, California, according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department. Thirty-six people were aboard.
Of the 26 people who were treated for injuries, 20 were transported to hospitals in the area. Three suffered major injuries. The others declined transportation or medical treatment. No deaths resulted from the incident.
“Coordination among multiple agencies helped get patients quickly on their way,” the fire department posted on X. “The first patients were [en route] to the ER within 15 minutes of the crews initiating the triage process, and by 10:30 p.m. all patients had been transported.”
The bus was found on its side when first responders arrived at the scene. Some passengers escaped through a hatch in the roof, according to the fire department.

The California Highway Patrol, a state agency with jurisdiction over freeways and state routes, is investigating the cause of the incident.
