Bus Carrying Dozens Crashes on US Interstate, Multiple People Confirmed Dead
A tragic incident occurred on a rainy Sunday night when a charter bus carrying up to 50 people crashed on a Pennsylvania interstate, resulting in the loss of three lives, according to state police.
The devastating wreck took place around 11:50 p.m. on southbound Interstate 81, just north of Harrisburg. The bus veered off the roadway, collided with an embankment, and rolled onto its right side before striking a car that was stationary in the right lane of traffic, as stated in the crash report.
Tragically, the three bus passengers involved in the collision were declared dead at the scene, while others suffered injuries ranging from minor to severe.
The Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center received 28 patients from the crash, with two individuals admitted as inpatients, 16 being treated in the emergency department, and 10 already discharged, according to spokesman Scott Gilbert.
Additional information regarding the victims was not immediately available through the coroner’s office, as stated by a Dauphin County representative.
Trooper Megan Frazer described the incident as a “mass casualty incident,” with the involvement of eight ambulances and lifeline emergency response due to the high number of people affected and the extent of their injuries.
At present, the identities of the bus owner and driver remain undisclosed, and further details about the crash may not be released until Tuesday, according to Frazer.
