The 1988 action-thriller film, in which Willis starred alongside actor De’voreaux White, has been a subject of controversy regarding its classification as a Christmas movie. White firmly believes it is, stating that the events of the film take place on Christmas Eve. “For the record, it’s a Christmas cult classic. Don’t forget it!” he emphasized.
Willis himself expressed his opinion on the matter in 2018, stating that “Die Hard” is not a Christmas movie. However, one of the film’s screenwriters, Steven E. de Souza, disagreed and insisted that it was.
The debate even caught the attention of journalist Jake Tapper, who tweeted at de Souza in 2017, asking for his take on whether “Die Hard” is a Christmas movie. De Souza humorously replied, “Yes, because the studio rejected the Purim draft.”
While Willis retired from acting last year, his family revealed that he has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), which has caused challenges with communication. Emma has expressed her struggles and feelings of “doom and gloom” in dealing with her husband’s declining health.
