Aaron Hernandez’s brother charged for making disturbing threat against school.
The Troubled Brother of Aaron Hernandez Faces New Charges for Threats and Stalking
In a shocking turn of events, Dennis Hernandez, the troubled brother of the late NFL player Aaron Hernandez, has been charged with new counts of threatening and stalking. The charges stem from his alleged threats to shoot up the University of Connecticut and kill three individuals in another state.
Following his appearance in court in Hartford, Dennis Hernandez was ordered to be held in custody. At this time, his attorney has not provided any comment on the matter.
These new charges come just days after Hernandez’s arrest on July 18 for state charges. Police reported that he had threatened to kill officers and even urged them to shoot him at his home in Bristol. Concerns about his mental health had been raised by two individuals close to him, prompting the police visit.
The arrest report revealed that the 37-year-old had sent threatening messages, including ones referencing a potential shooting at UConn. It is worth noting that Hernandez was a former Huskies quarterback and wide receiver who went by DJ Hernandez in the mid-2000s.
Court filings in the new federal case include the same threatening messages. Some of these messages indicate that Hernandez is facing financial struggles and plans to “take down everything” without concern for who may be caught in the crossfire.
One particularly chilling message sent to a woman in Hernandez’s life reads, “I’ve died for years now and now it’s other people’s turn.” Another message warned, “UConn’s gonna see how accurate I am too with my targets.”
According to court documents, Hernandez claimed to have driven to UConn’s campus in Storrs and to Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, on July 7. He had previously coached quarterbacks at Brown during the 2010-11 season.
On that same day, Hernandez was scheduled to appear in state court for another case related to allegations that he threw a bag containing a brick and a note over a fence onto ESPN’s property in Bristol.
UConn police have confirmed that a vehicle linked to Hernandez was present on campus that day. However, Brown University’s investigation did not indicate Hernandez’s recent presence on their campus.
Hernandez is expected to appear in state court on Tuesday and in federal court on August 11.
It is important to note that Dennis Hernandez’s younger brother, former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, tragically took his own life in 2017 while serving a murder sentence.
