Boris Johnson slams Tucker Carlson as a ‘traitor’ for ‘absurd interview’ with Putin
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson Responds to Putin’s Allegations
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has fired back at Russian President Vladimir Putin following his recent interview with Tucker Carlson. In the interview, which was posted on X, Putin accused Johnson of dissuading Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky from reaching an agreement with Russia to avoid a war.
“He put his signature and then he himself said, ‘We were ready to sign it, and the war would have been over long ago. However, Prime Minister Johnson came to talk us [Ukraine] out of it, and we’ve missed that chance,’” Putin said via a translator.
Johnson wasted no time in responding to these allegations. He penned an op-ed in the Daily Mail and released a video response, both of which were posted on X. While many political leaders condemned Carlson for agreeing to the interview, Johnson was one of the few mentioned by name by Putin.
“Around the world, people are watching that ludicrous interview with Vladimir Putin conducted by Tucker Carlson, and we must not fall for this tissue of lies above all for the notion that Putin is somehow fated to succeed in Ukraine. On the contrary, he is doomed to failure,” Johnson stated passionately in the video.
In his op-ed, Johnson vehemently denied the “ludicrous suggestion” that the U.K. government influenced Ukraine to continue fighting.

“When Tucker Carlson went to the Kremlin he had a function well known to history. He was to be the stooge of the tyrant, the dictaphone to the dictator and a traitor to journalism,” Johnson wrote. “In his fawning, guffawing, slack-jawed happiness at having a ‘scoop’, he betrayed his viewers and listeners around the world. He didn’t ask tough questions.”
During the interview, Putin claimed that Russia has suffered over 300,000 casualties among its army, which accounts for about 80% of its force. Putin also expressed his belief that Russia still has a chance to defeat Ukraine if the United States stops interfering.
What is Boris Johnson’s stance on Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine and the illegal annexation of Crimea?
The Russian government’s official website, Putin made several allegations and criticisms against the UK, including Johnson personally. However, Johnson took the opportunity to respond to these allegations, tackling each one head-on.
Firstly, Putin accused Johnson of being unreliable and untrustworthy. He claimed that the former prime minister had repeatedly broken promises and shifted positions on various issues. In response, Johnson emphasized his commitment to upholding the values of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law. He highlighted his track record of delivering on promises, such as leading the successful Brexit campaign and overseeing the successful rollout of COVID-19 vaccines in the UK.
Moreover, Johnson pointed out that Putin’s own track record is far from spotless. He raised the issue of Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine and the illegal annexation of Crimea, which led to international condemnation and economic sanctions against Russia. Johnson emphasized that the UK stands firm in its support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and will continue to hold Russia accountable for its actions.
Another allegation made by Putin was that the UK had been meddling in Russian domestic affairs and supporting anti-government movements. Johnson categorically denied these claims and stressed that the UK respects the sovereignty of all nations, including Russia. He pointed out that the UK has been an advocate for dialogue and cooperation between nations, and that any claims of interference are baseless and without evidence.
Furthermore, Putin accused Johnson of being anti-Russian, claiming that the former prime minister held a biased view of Russia and its people. In response, Johnson emphasized the distinction between the Russian government and its people. He expressed admiration for the Russian people and their rich history and culture but reiterated his strong opposition to the actions and policies of the Russian government, particularly regarding human rights and international law.
Finally, Johnson addressed the issue of cyberattacks, which Putin raised in the interview. Putin insinuated that the UK could be behind cyberattacks on Russian infrastructure, including the recent disruptions to some Russian internet services. In response, Johnson vehemently denied any involvement and stressed the UK’s commitment to cybersecurity and international norms. He called for cooperation among nations in combating cyber threats and condemned any attempt to use cyberattacks as a tool for aggression or destabilization.
In conclusion, Boris Johnson has responded to Putin’s allegations in a clear and measured manner. He has defended his track record, emphasized the UK’s commitment to democracy and international law, and refuted any claims of meddling or bias. Johnson’s response underscores the importance of open and constructive dialogue between nations, even in times of disagreements and tensions. It is a testament to the strength of democratic values and the belief in upholding the principles of justice and fairness on the international stage.
