Border Patrol Officials Say DHS Secretary Mayorkas Is Lying About the Border Again

Q: How can you tell Alejandro Mayorkas is telling the truth? A: If the Secretary of Homeland Security is talking about the border crisis, he’s lying. Border Patrol agents erupted after Mayorkas declared the border crisis resolved at the Aspen Security Forum on Tuesday. “Look, the border is secure,” Mayorkas told the audience, while acknowledging that DHS needed to make it “more secure.”

The hell it is, Border Patrol agents and their union responded late yesterday:

Multiple Border Patrol agents are pushing back against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ claim that the southern border is “secure” — just as agents on the frontlines of the historic migrant crisis are struggling to cope with the overwhelming numbers facing them. …

“Hundreds of thousands crossing every month is not the definition of secure,” one agent said. “They are liars and anyone who believes them are fools.”

Brandon Judd, President of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) also disputed that the border is secure, pointing to not only the drug flows into the U.S., but also the number of migrants that get past agents.

A high-level CBP source told Fox News last month that there have been 440,000 known gotaways since the fiscal year began in October — with over 50,000 in May. Combined with the 400,000 known gotaways since the beginning of FY 2021, that means that more than 800,000 illegal immigrants have gotten past agents since October 2020.

“As bad as the apprehension numbers are, and they are beyond bad, the scariest part of border security is the gotaways and the amount of drugs that are coming into the country,” Judd told Fox News Digital. “Secretary Mayorkas knows the cartels use illegal border crossers to facilitate their higher value contraband including criminal aliens and fentanyl.”

One has to wonder how Mayorkas came to that conclusion at all. Human traffickers killed dozens of migrants in an 18 wheeler outside of San Antonio just this month after blithely getting through the border and abandoning the truck shortly thereafter. DHS keeps reporting record numbers of captures along with record numbers of “get aways.” Six months ago, lower numbers of both led Mayorkas to tell Border Patrol agents that “it’s worse now than it, frankly, has been in at least 20 years, if not ever.” At that time, Mayorkas even promised to close the gaps in the wall — something that hasn’t even started, let alone finished.

Apparently Mayorkas reneged on those promises, again. Perhaps he figured everyone had forgotten, but Border Patrol agents certainly haven’t. They have to deal with the reality of the border crisis that Joe Biden’s campaign and presidential rhetoric set in motion, and which Mayorkas has spent most of his time in office trying to ignore.

Neither have border-state governors, who finally got fed up with Mayorkas and Biden’s border crisis and the way the media keeps overlooking it. Newsweek reports today that the strategy of busing these migrants to the media/Democrat power centers in New York City and Washington DC has begun to pay off, as suddenly the border crisis becomes everyone’s problem:

Republicans’ approach of busing migrants to major U.S. cities to highlight border issues might be working now that the influx of people has prompted Democratic mayors from New York City and Washington, D.C. to call on President Joe Biden for help.

On Tuesday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams demanded that the federal government help pay for the wave of asylum seekers headed to the nation’s most densely populated city, warning that resources are quickly spreading thin because of the busloads of people pouring in—especially given the city’s “right to shelter” mandate that guarantees beds for homeless asylum seekers.

“Currently, New York City is experiencing a marked increase in the number of asylum seekers who are arriving from Latin America and other regions,” Adams said in a statement. “In some instances, families are arriving on buses sent by the Texas and Arizona governments, while in other cases, it appears that individuals are being sent by the federal government.”

His remarks echo those of D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser who went on national television over the weekend to say the city’s homeless shelters were being filled by the buses being sent by governors from Texas and Arizona.

Hey, the border doesn’t feel very secure to you guys either? Go figure.

Where better to send these migrants than to so-called “sanctuary cities” that drive the policies that create and extend the border crisis? If Muriel Bowser and Eric Adams think a few thousand bused migrants is a crisis, imagine what it feels like for people here on the border. Hundreds of thousands have swarmed over the frontier here, and we don’t have the resources to deal with it either. If Washington DC feels overwhelmed, then Washington DC can do something to get Mayorkas and Biden to tell the truth and to do their jobs.
