Bob Casey achieves record-breaking fundraising quarter, amassing $4 million in second quarter.
Sen. Bob Casey Raises Over $4 Million in Second Quarter
Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) has achieved a remarkable fundraising milestone, raising more than $4 million in the second quarter of this year. This surpasses his previous record by an impressive $1.2 million, making it the most successful fundraising quarter of his career. While these numbers are yet to be confirmed through Federal Election Commission filings, they demonstrate Casey’s strength as he awaits a potential GOP challenger in his reelection bid.
Casey’s campaign team revealed that they currently have nearly $6 million in cash on hand as they enter the third quarter. This financial momentum is crucial for the swing-state Democrat as he strives to retain his seat. The impressive fundraising results reflect Casey’s dedication to serving Pennsylvania and his commitment to issues such as lowering costs, protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and standing up to China.
“During his time proudly serving Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate, Bob Casey has earned his reputation as a tireless champion for our kids, our seniors, and Pennsylvania workers,” said Tiernan Donohue, Casey’s campaign manager. “This impressive fundraising quarter shows Bob Casey is one of the most formidable incumbent Senators in the country, with the statewide support to prove it.”
Casey’s first-quarter FEC filings revealed a campaign balance of approximately $3.2 million. The upcoming second-quarter report, due on July 15, will provide further insight into his financial standing.
The race for Casey’s seat is anticipated to be highly competitive in the 2024 cycle. It is a crucial contest for Democrats as they strive to maintain control of the chamber in the next Congress. Despite facing potential criticism for his support of President Joe Biden’s legislative agenda and questions regarding his views on abortion, Casey enters the race as the slight favorite. His status as the longest-serving Democratic senator in Pennsylvania history, combined with his centrist approach and strong name recognition, bolsters his candidacy.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee has been actively seeking a candidate to challenge Casey. They have shown interest in former Bridgewater executive David McCormick, who previously ran in the 2022 GOP Senate primary. McCormick’s Pennsylvania political group, Pennsylvania Rising, recently announced that it raised over $1 million from May 2 to June 5. The majority of these funds came from a substantial donation by Jeffrey Yass, the state’s wealthiest individual and a prominent GOP donor, with the remainder contributed by numerous small-dollar donors.
“It’s time for Pennsylvania Republicans to start winning again, and we do that by devoting resources to candidates who can bring home a victory this November,” stated McCormick. “I’m proud that Pennsylvania Rising hit the ground running and am grateful to all those who are supporting this team effort.”
