Billy Eichner Still Defending His LGBTQ Rom-Com ‘Bros,’ Threatened To Tweet About It Every Day ‘Just To Spite You’

Billy Eichner is still defending his LGBTQ romantic comedy, “Bros,” which was a box office flop over the weekend, and he wants the world to see it.

The gay love story was aggressively advertised before its premiere, but that wasn’t enough to bring audiences to the theater. “Bros” earned a mere $4.8 million opening weekend, putting it far behind other current films, including “Smile” ($22 million), “Don’t Worry Darling” ($7.3 million), and “The Woman King” ($7 million).

“Box office, as we all know, has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of a movie. And tweeting about a movie you haven’t actually seen is meaningless. That’s just twitter bullsh**. The majority of people who see Bros really love it! Go check it out and see for yourself!” Eichner tweeted Monday.

In a follow-up, the screenwriter continued with a threat, saying: “And yes I’m going to continue tweeting about Bros every day for the next year just to spite you! GO BROS!!! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!”

Eichner limited replies to the tweet.

This wasn’t the first time the “Billy on the Street” star expressed his feelings about “Bros” on his social media account. On Sunday, he urged people who aren’t “homophobic weirdos” to see the movie.

“Last night I snuck in and sat in the back of a sold out theater playing BROS in LA,” he tweeted, as The Daily Wire previously reported. “The audience howled with laughter start to finish, burst into applause at the end, and some were wiping away tears as they walked out. It was truly magical. Really. I am VERY proud of this movie.”

“Rolling Stone already has BROS on the list of the best comedies of the 21st century,” he continued.

Eichner, who also stars in the movie, attributed the lackluster response to heterosexual audiences not wanting to see it.

“Even with glowing reviews, great Rotten Tomatoes scores, an A CinemaScore etc, straight people, especially in certain parts of the country, just didn’t show up for Bros,” he shared in another tweet. “And that’s disappointing but it is what it is.”

“Everyone who ISN’T a homophobic weirdo should go see BROS tonight” as “it *is* special and uniquely powerful to see this particular story on a big screen, esp for queer folks who don’t get this opportunity often,” he went on. “I love this movie so much. GO BROS!!!”
