Biden’s Space Force nominee fired service member for opposing Marxism in the military.
President Biden’s Pick for U.S. Space Force Command Faces Controversy
President Joe Biden’s newest pick to lead U.S. Space Force Command has come under scrutiny for his involvement in removing a service member from duty. Lt. Gen. Stephen Whiting, nominated by Biden earlier this month, played a role in the firing of Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier, who spoke out against DEI efforts and Marxism in the U.S. military.
Marxism and Critical Race Theory in the Military
Lohmeier, during a podcast interview, expressed concerns about the increasing presence of Marxist thought and critical race theory in the U.S. military. He criticized the embrace of DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) and its roots in Marxism.
“Our diversity, inclusion, and equity [DEI] industry and the trainings we’re receiving in the military via that industry are rooted in critical race theory which is rooted in Marxism,” Lohmeier said.
DEI promotes discrimination based on characteristics such as skin color and sexual orientation, while critical race theory seeks to divide society along racial lines.

Controversial Removal and Investigation
Shortly after Lohmeier’s podcast interview, Whiting relieved him of command, citing a “loss of trust and confidence in his ability to lead.” Whiting initiated an investigation into Lohmeier’s comments to determine if they constituted prohibited partisan political activity.

Push for DEI Ideology
Whiting has a history of promoting DEI ideology in the military. In a Facebook post, he discussed “diversity and inclusion” in recruiting, emphasizing the need to bring in the best talent from all demographics.
Similar Views in Biden’s Nominees
Whiting is not the only Biden nominee who supports DEI ideology in the military. Gen. Charles Q. Brown, nominated to be the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has also endorsed such teachings.
