Biden stands by troubled son Hunter amidst mounting troubles.

President Joe Biden Keeps Close Eye on Troubled Son

President Joe Biden is keeping a watchful eye on his troubled son, Hunter Biden, as problems continue to mount. Hunter has been spending more and more time with his father, joining him at Camp David, watching fireworks from the White House balcony on July Fourth, and even attending a state dinner shortly after pleading guilty to federal gun and tax charges.

The President’s Trust and Pride

“My son has done nothing wrong,” the president stated proudly in a May interview. “I trust him, I have faith in him, and it impacts my presidency by making me feel proud of him.”

Hunter Biden’s presence in the headlines has only increased since then, coinciding with his increased proximity to his famous father. Even news stories that seemingly have no connection to Hunter Biden, such as the recent discovery of cocaine at the White House, bring his name back into the spotlight.

A Troubled Past

Hunter Biden, 53, has battled addiction to crack cocaine in the past, a struggle he candidly wrote about in his 2015 memoir, Beautiful Things.

Initial reports suggested that the cocaine was found in the White House library, but administration officials have clarified that it was actually discovered in the West Wing, an area accessible to both staff and tourists. This implies that it did not originate from within the president’s immediate circle.

However, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre did not provide specific details about the exact location, citing an ongoing investigation by the Secret Service.

“You have got to be kidding me,” wrote former press secretary Ari Fleischer in a frustrated tweet. “Cocaine was found at the WH and authorities aren’t saying exactly where it was found. If it’s in the Old Executive Office Building, it’s likely staff. If it’s in the mansion, it’s likely Hunter. Reporters do your job.”

During a recent briefing, reporters asked several questions related to cocaine, although none directly inquired about Hunter Biden’s involvement. The president’s son was present in the building on Friday, and the cocaine was discovered on Sunday, although Jean-Pierre mentioned that tours were conducted through the West Wing over the weekend.

This incident marks the second time in less than a month that Hunter Biden’s presence on the White House grounds has sparked controversy.

A Father’s Supervision

While some may question why the president spends so much time with his son despite the headaches it brings, a report from NBC suggests that Joe Biden sees it as a way to closely supervise Hunter and keep him out of trouble. According to the outlet, when aides raise concerns about this decision, Joe Biden’s response is: “Hands off my family.”

The White House attempted to portray Hunter Biden’s recent plea deal with the Department of Justice as the conclusion of their investigation. However, Republicans view it as a fresh start, highlighting what they perceive as unequal treatment compared to former President Donald Trump.

Another controversy surrounding Hunter Biden emerged when a text he allegedly sent to a Chinese business associate referencing his father came to light. Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and National Security Council spokesman John Kirby declined to answer questions about it.

While NBC reports that some Democrats feel uneasy about Hunter Biden’s continued presence amidst the swarm of White House reporters and press cameras, the president’s response indicates that this trend is unlikely to end anytime soon.

The public’s opinion on Joe Biden’s high-profile support for Hunter Biden appears to be divided. According to a Reuters-Ipsos poll, 60% of respondents believe that the president is being a good father by standing by his son, while half believe that Hunter Biden is receiving preferential treatment from the DOJ due to his privileged status as the president’s son.
