Biden: I’ll Take Further Action Against IRGC If Needed
President Biden Prepared to Take Additional Action in the Middle East
In a letter to Congress on Sunday, President Joe Biden expressed his readiness to take further action in the Middle East against members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). This comes after the United States launched retaliatory strikes against Iranian-backed terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria last week.
The decision to conduct these strikes was prompted by a suicide drone attack on a U.S. base in Jordan, carried out by an Iranian-backed terrorist group, which resulted in the death of three U.S. soldiers and left many others wounded.
“U.S. military forces struck more than 85 targets, with numerous aircraft to include long-range bombers flown from the United States,” stated U.S. Central Command. “The airstrikes employed more than 125 precision munitions. The facilities that were struck included command and control operations, centers, intelligence centers, rockets, and missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicle storages, and logistics and munition supply chain facilities of militia groups and their IRGC sponsors who facilitated attacks against U.S. and Coalition forces.”
President Biden, in a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), asserted that he had the legal authority to conduct these strikes without congressional approval, citing the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (Public Law 107-40).
Towards the end of the letter, President Biden made it clear that he would not hesitate to take action against the IRGC, a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization, if necessary.
“If necessary, I will direct additional measures, including against the IRGC and IRGC-affiliated personnel and facilities, as appropriate, to address the series of attacks against United States forces and facilities,” he stated.
Although the letter did not provide specific details about the additional measures the administration was prepared to take, it emphasized President Biden’s commitment to protecting U.S. forces and facilities in the region.

What is the relationship between Iran and Syria?
However, the relations between the two countries do not depend on religious causes, because Syria is a secular state, while Iran is an Islamic republic. Instead, their ties are driven by common political and strategic points. One of the first major fronts of the Iran–Syria alliance was Iraq. N northern Iraq earlier this month. The attack, which was carried out by an Iranian-backed militia group, killed one U.S. contractor and injured several others. In response, the U.S. military targeted multiple facilities used by the militia group in Syria and Iraq.
President Biden’s letter to Congress outlined his plans to take additional action against the IRGC, a branch of the Iranian military that has been designated a terrorist organization by the United States. The President made it clear that these actions are being taken to defend U.S. personnel and interests in the region and to deter future attacks.
The recent strikes against Iranian-backed groups in the Middle East mark a departure from the previous administration’s approach. Under former President Donald Trump, the United States had pursued a policy of maximum pressure on Iran, including withdrawing from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal. However, President Biden has expressed his intention to return to diplomacy with Iran and potentially rejoin the JCPOA, provided Iran returns to compliance with its obligations under the agreement.
President Biden’s approach to the Middle East reflects his commitment to prioritizing diplomacy and multilateralism. The President has stated that he aims to work with allies and partners in the region to address the various challenges that the Middle East faces, including the Iranian nuclear program, regional conflicts, and terrorist threats.
In his letter to Congress, President Biden emphasized that the United States will act to protect its interests and personnel, while also seeking to de-escalate tensions in the region. The President recognizes the complex nature of the challenges in the Middle East and the importance of engaging with regional partners to find peaceful solutions.
The President’s decision to take additional action in the Middle East demonstrates a clear commitment to ensuring the security and stability of the region. President Biden believes that a diplomatic approach, coupled with targeted military action when necessary, will be key to achieve this goal.
It is worth noting that any further action in the region should be carried out with caution and consideration of the potential consequences. The Middle East is a highly complex and volatile region, and any military intervention should be carefully calibrated to avoid unintended escalation.
As President Biden prepares to take additional action in the Middle East, it is crucial that he continues to prioritize diplomacy and engage with key regional stakeholders. By doing so, the President can foster stability and security in the region, while also advancing U.S. interests and promoting peace.
In conclusion, President Biden’s readiness to take further action against the IRGC in the Middle East underscores his commitment to defend U.S. personnel and interests in the region. By pursuing a diplomatic approach and engaging with allies and partners, President Biden aims to address the numerous challenges in the Middle East while avoiding unnecessary escalation. The success of such actions will depend on careful planning, collaboration, and a commitment to multilateralism.
