In a recent interview, Joe Biden was seen becoming defensive regarding his handling of the troop withdrawal. In an exclusive interview with ABC, Biden was asked if the failures in Afghanistan were due to poor intelligence, execution or judgement. Although, instead of taking responsibility for the disastrous drawback, he pointed the blame to the Afghan president and military.

When asked what he thought after seeing recent photos out of the region, he simply said “we have to gain control of this. We have to move more quickly.” Biden went on to claim there are greater threats around the world than those coming out of the mountains of Afghanistan.

Biden was grilled for his judgement in July when he predicted a tragedy like this was highly unlikely. The Democrat has continued to push back on critique of the execution of the withdrawal, calling it a simple decision. However, he said American troops could remain stationed in the region beyond the Aug. 31 deadline.

In regard to how Biden believes history will remember this moment in time, he said that America tried to overextend what it needed to deal with the national security interest, adding he thinks the American people will stand by him.
