Biden fires Trump-appointed Social Security Chief Andrew Saul, who refuses to leave position

Joe Biden has fired the Trump-era Social Security Commissioner after he reportedly refused to resign from his position. The White House announced the axe of Andrew Saul amid an ongoing dispute over his stance against unions and conservative policies.
Reports say Biden requested Saul to resign, but the Trump-appointee refused to do so. This led to his official termination. Saul reportedly questioned the legality of Biden’s decision and argued his position was “term-protected,” while asserting his plans to head into work on Monday.

Many Republican lawmakers have slammed Biden for removing Saul from his position by arguing Saul’s bipartisan backing and warning of Biden politicizing the Social Security Administration. Biden also requested for Social Security Deputy Commissioner David Black to submit his resignation, which Black agreed to.
In response to Saul’s refusal to step down, the White House released a list of grievances against him and claimed his actions undermined the administration’s mission and agenda.
