Biden judge stops NM governor’s gun carry law suspension.
Federal Judge Grants Temporary Restraining Order Against New Mexico Governor’s Suspension of Gun Carry Laws
A federal judge has made a significant ruling in favor of gun rights in New Mexico. U.S. District Court Judge David Urias, who was appointed by President Joe Biden, has granted a temporary restraining order against Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s suspension of gun carry laws in Albuquerque and the surrounding area.
The order specifically applies to Section 1 and Section 4 of the public health order, as reported by local media. These sections restrict the possession of firearms in certain locations.
“They just want the right to carry their guns,” said Judge Urias, referring to the plaintiffs who filed the lawsuit against Governor Grisham’s emergency public health order issued on September 8.
Section 1 of the order prohibits the possession of firearms, openly or concealed, within cities or counties that have experienced an average of 1,000 or more violent crimes per 100,000 residents per year since 2021, according to official government statistics.
Section 4 states that firearms are not allowed on state property, public schools, and public parks, except for law enforcement officers or licensed security officers.
