Biden’s Campaign Manager skips MSNBC interview to dodge Hunter questions: Report.
President Joe Biden’s Re-Election Campaign Cancels MSNBC Interview
President Joe Biden‘s re-election campaign made a surprising move last week by canceling an MSNBC interview. The decision came shortly after the Department of Justice appointed a special counsel to investigate his son, Hunter Biden.
Why the Interview Was Canceled
According to a report by The New York Times, Julie Chávez, Biden’s campaign manager, backed out of the scheduled appearance. The newspaper revealed that Chávez wanted to avoid questions about Delaware’s U.S. Attorney David Weiss being elevated to special counsel status.
Hunter Biden’s Legal Troubles
Hunter Biden is currently facing the possibility of going to trial after a plea deal on tax evasion charges fell apart. His lawyers, however, claim that a pretrial diversion agreement on a felony firearm offense remains intact, with prosecutors willing to drop the case if certain conditions are met.
President Biden has previously defended his son, stating in a May interview on MSNBC that Hunter has done nothing wrong. However, with the ongoing criminal inquiry and a GOP probe into the Biden family’s finances, the White House has been cautious in commenting on this “personal matter.”
White House’s Response
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has refused to address questions about the special counsel’s investigation, emphasizing the importance of the Department of Justice handling the case independently. She also denied that any evidence has been found implicating the president in any wrongdoing related to his son’s business dealings.
When asked about Hunter Biden, Jean-Pierre reiterated that the president loves his son and is proud of his recovery from addiction. However, she declined to provide further details.
President Biden Keeps His Distance
Upon returning to the White House after a weekend at the beach in Delaware, President Biden kept his distance from reporters. Although questions were thrown his way regarding Hunter Biden and the special counsel, the president remained far enough away that it was unclear whether he could hear the inquiries over the background noise.
