Biden criticized for disclosing classified military details in interview.
President Joe Biden Faces Backlash for Revealing Sensitive Military Information
President Joe Biden faced intense criticism on Sunday after he disclosed classified U.S. military details during an interview, raising concerns that this could embolden America’s adversaries.
Biden, in a conversation with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, justified providing cluster munitions to Ukraine by stating that the United States is running out of 155mm artillery shells.
“These are weapons that 100 nations banned, including some of our closest NATO allies,” Zakaria pointed out. “When there were reports of Russians potentially using them against civilians, your former press secretary suggested it could be considered a war crime.”
“What made you change your stance and decide to supply these weapons?” Zakaria asked.
“The Ukrainians are facing ammunition shortages,” Biden responded. “They used to rely on 155-millimeter weapons. This conflict revolves around munitions, and they are running low on ammunition while we also have limited supplies. So, based on the Defense Department’s recommendation, I decided to temporarily provide the Ukrainians with 155 shells that have a very low dud rate. These shells are least likely to cause unintended explosions.”
“Moreover, they are not used in civilian areas. The goal is to defend against tanks and navigate through trenches. It was not an easy decision, and we are not signatories of the ban on these weapons. However, I was convinced that it was necessary. The Ukrainians either have the means to halt the Russian advance in these areas or they don’t. I believe they needed them,” Biden explained.

Biden’s remarks triggered a wave of criticism online, with commentators arguing that he should not disclose such sensitive information during interviews.
“Joe Biden broadcasting to the world that the US is low on 155mm shells,” Republican strategist Steve Guest tweeted. “Moron. Does Biden not care that our adversaries in China are listening?”
“Just spectacular,” attorney and columnist Kurt Schlichter sarcastically remarked.
“Biden seems to be saying we’re sending cluster bombs to Ukraine because we’re running out of other munitions,” Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. tweeted. “Looks like a pretext for even more military spending to me. The time has come to offer diplomatic alternatives to war and bring both sides to the negotiating table.”
“Love when the president of America goes on CNN to tell everyone we’re low on ammo,” conservative strategist Logan Dobson tweeted.
