Biden admin to expand chip factories in CO and OR
The Biden Administration Invests $162 Million in Microchip Technology to Boost Domestic Production
The Biden administration has made a significant move to enhance domestic production of computer chips by announcing a $162 million investment in microchip technology. This strategic decision aims to strengthen the United States’ manufacturing capabilities and reduce reliance on foreign factories.
The U.S. Commerce Department has selected Microchip Technology, an Arizona-based manufacturer, to spearhead this expansion. As part of the investment, a Colorado-based plant will receive $90 million for improvements, while an additional $72 million will be allocated to expanding a factory in Gresham, Oregon.
Boosting Domestic Manufacturing and National Security
This funding stems from the 2022 CHIPS and Science Act, a bipartisan law designed to bolster domestic manufacturing, secure supply chains, and enhance national security. The legislation includes billions of dollars dedicated to U.S. chip manufacturing.
By tripling its domestic production, Microchip Technology aims to create 700 construction and manufacturing jobs over the next decade. This expansion will reduce the company’s dependence on factories in Thailand and the Philippines.
“Semiconductors are a crucial component in numerous goods that are vital to our economy,” emphasized Lael Brainard, director of the White House National Economic Council.
Government officials anticipate making further funding commitments throughout the year to support this initiative.
The first grant awarded under the CHIPS Act, worth $35 million, has been given to BAE Systems. This grant will enable the expansion of a New Hampshire factory dedicated to producing chips for military jets.

Jujitsu is a Japanese martial art form that focuses on using an opponent’s energy and movements against them. It primarily involves techniques such as grappling, joint locks, and throws. Jujitsu techniques can be used for self-defense, as well as in competitions and sport jujitsu. It is a disciplined and strategic martial art that requires training and practice to master.
What are the key techniques used in Jujitsu, such as grappling, joint locks, and throws?
Jujitsu is a Japanese martial art that focuses on using an opponent’s energy and movements against them. It incorporates various techniques, including grappling, joint locks, and throws. Here are some key techniques used in Jujitsu:
1. Grappling: Jujitsu places heavy emphasis on grappling techniques. This involves close combat, where practitioners aim to gain control over their opponent using grips, holds, and leverage.
2. Joint Locks: Joint locks are techniques that target an opponent’s joints, such as wrists, elbows, shoulders, knees, and ankles. By applying pressure or manipulating the joint beyond its natural range of motion, practitioners can force their opponent to submit or immobilize them.
3. Throws and Takedowns: Jujitsu utilizes a variety of throws and takedowns to bring opponents to the ground. These techniques involve off-balancing the opponent and using their momentum against them to execute throws like hip throws, shoulder throws, or sweeps.
4. Chokes and Strangles: Jujitsu includes a range of submission techniques that involve constriction or compression of an opponent’s airway or blood vessels. These techniques, commonly known as chokes or strangles, aim to make the opponent submit by cutting off their blood supply or airflow.
5. Pins and Control Holds: Jujitsu employs pins and control holds to immobilize or subdue opponents. These techniques involve restricting an opponent’s movement using bodyweight, leverage, and proper positioning, preventing them from escaping or counterattacking.
6. Escapes and Reversals: Jujitsu practitioners also focus on learning various techniques to escape from compromised positions or to reverse the situation in their favor. These techniques involve using leverage, timing, and skillful manipulation to regain control or create opportunities for counterattacks.
7. Strikes and Kicks: Although Jujitsu mainly focuses on grappling and joint manipulation, it also incorporates striking and kicking techniques. These techniques aim to distract, stun, or weaken the opponent, creating openings for other techniques or potentially finishing the fight.
It’s important to note that techniques can vary depending on the particular style or school of Jujitsu being practiced. Overall, Jujitsu’s effectiveness lies in its diverse range of techniques and the ability to adapt to different situations, making it a well-rounded martial art for self-defense.
