Biden Admin to Re-Label Houthis as Terrorists Again

President Joe Biden’s administration expected to re-designate Iranian-backed terrorist group in Yemen

The Houthis, an Iranian-backed terrorist group based in Yemen, are set to be re-designated as an official terrorist group by‍ President Joe Biden’s administration. This comes after the group was⁤ removed from the⁢ official list shortly after Biden took office.

The announcement‍ is expected to be made on Wednesday and comes in response⁢ to the Houthis’ recent attacks ⁣on ⁢merchant vessels. Over the past few months, the terrorist ⁣group ‌has launched numerous attacks, ‌causing disruption to global trade in the Red Sea.

In response ⁣to these actions, ‌the U.S. has ‍started launching⁣ airstrikes against the Houthis. President Biden himself has referred to the‍ group as a terrorist organization.

“Nothing to update yet on ‍the FTO designation,”

White House National Security Council⁣ spokesperson John Kirby told ⁤reporters on Tuesday. “We’re still in‍ the process of reviewing it.”

Last ‌week, the U.S. conducted airstrikes⁤ against the⁣ Houthis in coordination with the United Kingdom. ⁤The operation also received support from Australia, Canada, Netherlands, and Bahrain, according to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

“This‌ multinational ‍action⁣ targeted radar systems, air defense systems, and storage and launch sites for one way attack ⁢unmanned aerial systems, ‍cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles,”

the statement from CENTCOM said. “These strikes have no association with and are separate from Operation Prosperity Guardian, a defensive coalition of over 20 countries operating ⁢in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb Strait, and Gulf of Aden.”

U.S. Air Force Lt. ‍Gen. Alex Grynkewich, U.S. Air ‍Forces Central and Combined Forces Air Component Commander Ninth‌ Air Force, revealed that the ‌strikes ‌targeted over 60 locations associated with the Iranian-backed Houthi militants. These ⁤included command and control nodes, munitions depots, launching systems, production facilities, and air defense radar systems.

What are the potential implications of re-designating the Houthis⁣ as a terrorist group for humanitarian⁤ aid efforts in Yemen

President⁢ Joe Biden’s administration⁣ has decided to re-designate the Houthi ⁢rebel group in Yemen as an official ‌terrorist organization.⁢ This move comes after the⁤ group was initially taken off the official list shortly after Biden assumed office.

The decision to re-designate the Houthis as a terrorist group is a direct response to their recent attacks⁢ on merchant vessels. These attacks have significantly disrupted global trade in the Red Sea region, causing concerns for the international community.

The announcement of this re-designation is expected to be made on Wednesday. It highlights the Biden⁤ administration’s strict stance against terrorism and its commitment⁢ to addressing regional ⁤security issues. By officially classifying the Houthis as a terrorist group, the United States intends to send a clear message that it will not tolerate acts of violence and disruption to global trade.

The Houthis⁢ have carried out numerous attacks in⁢ recent months, targeting ‍merchant⁣ vessels and causing significant economic losses. These attacks⁤ pose a threat not‍ only to regional stability‍ but also to ⁢the global⁢ economy. The re-designation of the group as‍ a terrorist organization⁣ is a step ⁣towards ‍holding them accountable for their actions and discouraging further acts of violence.

Iran’s backing of the Houthi rebels has long been a contentious issue. The Iranian government has provided the group with financial and military support, enabling their continued aggression ‌in Yemen and the broader region. ⁤By re-designating the Houthis, President Biden’s administration aims to address ‍Iran’s ‌role in supporting terrorism and⁤ destabilizing the region.

It is ‌important to note that the re-designation of the Houthis as a⁢ terrorist⁤ group may have⁤ significant implications for humanitarian aid efforts in Yemen. The⁢ country is already facing a devastating humanitarian crisis, and this decision may further complicate efforts to provide ⁤assistance to those in need. The⁤ Biden administration must prioritize finding ways to deliver aid ⁢effectively while also addressing the ⁤security threats posed by the Houthi group.

In ‍conclusion, President Joe ‌Biden’s administration has decided to re-designate the Iranian-backed terrorist group, the Houthis,‌ in‌ Yemen. This move⁣ is a response to the group’s recent attacks on merchant ⁤vessels and ‌aims to address regional ⁢security concerns. Although this decision may⁢ have implications for humanitarian aid efforts, it ⁤underscores the administration’s commitment to combating terrorism ‌and holding accountable those ⁤who seek to disrupt global trade and stability.
