House Committee Reveals Biden Admin’s Expanding Censorship Efforts to Suppress Uncomfortable ‘Malinformation’.
The Biden Administration’s War on Disinformation
The Biden administration’s efforts to combat disinformation have taken a concerning turn. In their quest to control the narrative, they have now targeted “malinformation,” which refers to true information that is inconvenient for the Democrat ruling regime.
Lawmakers on the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government recently released an interim report on the Department of Homeland Security’s disinformation programs within the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). According to the report, CISA has become the nerve center of the federal government’s domestic surveillance and censorship operations on social media. It has steadily expanded its censorship efforts since 2018.
“In 2022 and 2023, in response to growing public and private criticism of CISA’s unconstitutional behavior, CISA attempted to camouflage its activities, duplicitously claiming it serves a purely ‘informational’ role,” the report reads.
CISA has outsourced its dystopian censorship regime to third-party nonprofits and colluded with Big Tech companies to suppress information that goes against the regime’s narratives. By exploiting its connections, CISA has found ways to circumvent the First Amendment’s prohibition against government-induced censorship.
“This included the creation of reporting ‘portals’ which funneled ‘misinformation’ reports directly to social media platforms,” the report says.
What’s even more alarming is that the government’s disinformation efforts extend to the censorship of “malinformation.” This term refers to factual information that is objectionable not because it is false, but because it is provided without adequate context as determined by the government.
CISA has tried to hide the true nature of its work by removing references to surveillance and censorship from its website. The Department of Justice, under President Joe Biden, has also interfered with public records requests to hinder congressional oversight. The select subcommittee is still waiting for CISA’s compliance with subpoenas.
In March, the select subcommittee held a hearing on the federal government’s disinformation efforts, where two journalists behind the “Twitter Files,” Matt Taibbi and Michael Shellenberger, testified. They shed light on the censorship industrial complex that is being financed by American taxpayers and run by the scientific and technological elite.
“A focus of this fast-growing network is making lists of people whose opinions, beliefs, associations, or sympathies are deemed misinformation, disinformation, or malinformation. That last term is just a euphemism for ‘true but inconvenient,'” Taibbi explained.
The committee has made it clear that they will continue to investigate CISA’s and other Executive Branch agencies’ involvement with social media platforms. However, it’s important to note that the Department of Homeland Security is not the only agency in the Biden administration engaged in the censorship industry. The Biden State Department has also funded a “Disinformation Index” that blacklists conservative websites from major advertisers.
