AG urges Trump’s trial relocation for a fair trial.
Attorney General Calls for Trump’s Trial to Be Moved to His State to Ensure Fair Trial
West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey is demanding a change of venue in the Department of Justice’s prosecution of former President Donald Trump. Morrisey argues that Trump cannot receive a fair trial in the heavily Democratic and politically biased Washington, D.C.
Morrisey emphasized the importance of due process and a fair tribunal in our criminal justice system. He questioned whether anyone believes Trump will receive a fair shake in Washington, D.C., given its overwhelmingly Democratic population.
According to the last presidential election, over 92 percent of D.C. residents voted Democrat. Morrisey believes that moving the trial to West Virginia, where there are federal district courthouses that can provide a fair hearing, would eliminate the political concerns surrounding the case.
Trump is facing charges of conspiracy and obstruction for challenging the results of the 2020 presidential election. Morrisey’s call for a change of venue is supported by many Republicans who believe that the D.C. district court is an unfair tribunal for the former president.
Morrisey’s tweet last week criticizing the politicized nature of the case further solidifies his stance. He argues that if prosecutors are confident in their case, they should not oppose moving the trial to West Virginia.
Trump himself has also expressed his concerns about receiving a fair trial in D.C. He is seeking a change of venue and the recusal of the presiding judge, Tanya Chutkan, an appointee of former President Barack Obama.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is considered a top challenger to Trump in the GOP primary race, also supports a venue change to ensure a fair trial. DeSantis believes that Washington, D.C., with its swamp mentality, is an unfair setting for the trial.
Overall, the call for a change of venue reflects the concerns of many Republicans who believe that Trump’s trial in D.C. would be politically biased and lacking in fairness. Moving the trial to West Virginia could provide a more impartial and just hearing for the former president.

“I don’t think any Republican, much less any ‘America First’-type Republican, could ever expect to have a fair trial in a D.C. setting with a D.C. judge and D.C. jury,” Ned Ryun, the CEO of American Majority, told The Hill last week. He emphasized that the trial in D.C. would be a rigged game and not legitimate.
Trump’s case has sparked a debate about the fairness of the trial venue and the need for a change to ensure justice is served. The move to West Virginia could provide a more impartial and unbiased trial for the former president.
As the discussion continues, it remains to be seen whether the trial will be moved and if Trump will indeed receive a fair trial.
