Ashley Moody says ‘all options’ are on the table as Trump considers tax hike for millionaires – Washington Examiner
In a recent appearance on Fox Business, Florida Senator Ashley Moody discussed the possibility of increasing taxes for millionaires as part of President Donald Trump’s economic agenda. Moody emphasized that “all options” must be considered to achieve financial stability and curb spending. She reiterated that many Americans desire financial security and that significant cuts to government spending are essential to addressing the nation’s high debt levels. While there are mixed opinions within the Republican Party regarding tax increases, Moody believes that if Republicans focus on key issues such as fiscal responsibility, the American public will support their initiatives. House Speaker Mike Johnson has expressed a preference for tax reductions rather than increases, reflecting a divide within the party on this matter.
Ashley Moody says ‘all options’ are on the table as Trump considers tax hike for millionaires
Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL) said Friday that “all options” are on the table after President Donald Trump asked House leaders to consider a tax increase for millionaires to ensure his economic agenda.
Moody said during an appearance on Fox Business’s Mornings with Maria Bartiromo that all the American people want at their core is financial stability and physical security and making significant cuts to spending is necessary to achieve the former.
“Donald Trump got elected on those two promises, and you’ve heard him roll out different ideas to try and bring this nation back to a tether point of fiscal sanity,” Moody said.
“We know we have to make significant cuts to spending in order to get there, and all options in terms of how we do that have to be on the table if we’re gonna really roll up our sleeves and in a genuine way, an honest way, tackle that.”
Republicans are looking to make notable slashes to spending to pay for an extension of the Trump tax cuts, and the Washington Examiner reported that the president is considering permitting the rate on those making over $2.5 million to revert from 37% to the pre-2017 39.6%.
Some in the GOP are wary of such an action, but Moody’s suggested all actions must be considered to prevent a tax hike on the majority of Americans.
“There are a lot of hours being put into how can we substantially decrease spending,” she said.
“We are at an all-time level high in a national debt…this last administration was asking for spending increases of 60% when population was growing 2%. We have to do something on our spending.”
According to the Florida senator, if Republicans in the Senate and House continue to deliver on the key issues of financial stability and physical security, Americans will support whatever course they take.
“I think the American people are going to be on board and be happy with what comes out of this product,” she said.
TRUMP ASKS SPEAKER JOHNSON TO LOOK AT INCREASING TAX RATES FOR MILLIONAIRES
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has not been as receptive as Trump to a return to 40% for millionaires, according to a Thursday report.
“We’re the Republican Party, and we’re for tax reduction for everyone,” the speaker said last month. “So, I mean, that’s a general principle that we always try to abide by.”
